Field Day Moved to All Saints

Given the forecast of rain for Saturday and Sunday and what we anticipate will be poor field conditions at Linton Hall, as well as the possibility for additional showers on Monday morning, we will be hosting Field Day at All Saints on Monday, June 4th. 

The time of the event will remain the same, i.e. 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with no Extended Day services available.

Morning Arrival Procedures (8:30-9:00 a.m.)  

  • Volunteers who will be assisting with the event are asked to park in the church lot, to enter the school via the front door, sign-in at the office and then escort their son/daughter to their classroom.
  • All other students may be dropped off using our regular morning procedures, beginning at 8:40 a.m.

Dismissal Procedures (1:00 p.m.)

Field Day will conclude at 1:00 p.m.  Parents are asked to notify the homeroom teacher when departing with their child.  All other students will exit the building using our regular procedures and gather in the front courtyard and behind the school for dismissal.

We look forward to a wonderful day of activities – rain or shine – that we hope will be very enjoyable for the children.

Kindness Week: May 14-18

Kindness Week is coming to All Saints next week.  The theme is “Spread Kindness Like Confetti.”  A kick off assembly, presented by the Ambassadors, will be held this Friday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Activity Center.  Kindness Week will emphasize kindness towards others and random acts of kindness.  Be sure to check out our “kindness tree” and the kindness bulletin boards to see how the children are putting this virtue into action.

Kindness Week is just the beginning for a yearlong focus on kindness during the 2018-2019 school year.  Let’s spread kindness like confetti!

Medical Missionaries Food Collection – Southern VA

All Saints has been invited to provide emergency relief through contributions of the following items: peanut butter, cans of chicken, tuna, spam and any other meats or fish, powdered milk, cereal, macaroni and cheese, soup, pasta and baby food.  Collection bins will be available in the new breezeway through Friday of this week.  In advance, thank you for any support you can provide.

All Saints Wins FBI Cyber Safety Award

Representatives from the FBI Washington Field Office visited All Saints on Friday to present a special Cyber Safety Award to our school. Congratulations to our students and Computer Teacher Mrs. Jane Carroll on winning the Stingray category of the FBI Safe Online Surfing Program (SOS) for the month of February 2018. Our students achieved the highest score in the nation for the Stingray category during February!! All Saints began participating in the SOS Program this past year in an effort to continue educating our students on the importance of cyber safety.

Keeping You and Your Family Safe Online – April 24

“Keeping You and Your Family Safe Online” – Parent Presentation (April 24th) Mindful of the importance of maintaining an awareness of the risks that exist on the Internet as well as strategies for keeping our young people safe, All Saints Catholic School is pleased to host a special presentation for parents entitled Keeping You and Your Family Safe Online. This informative session will take place during the PTO General Assembly Meeting on Tuesday, April 24 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Activity Center.

Our speaker will be Mr. Kevin Bohli, Executive Director of the Office of Youth, Campus and Young Adult Ministries for the Diocese of Arlington. In addition to addressing the dangers of pornography, he will provide very specific guidance and resources for parents for effectively managing technology devices. Given the priority that we place on student safety and the need for parents to be well informed on this issue, at least one parent from those families with a child in grades five through eight are asked to attend. While all parents are cordially invited to participate, the topic will have particular relevance for those with adolescent children.

As an incentive, parents who attend the presentation will earn 3 Stewardship Shares (twice the usual amount for a 1.5 hour meeting) plus one free homework pass for each of their children.

Easter Triduum

This week our Church celebrates the greatest mystery of our faith ~ the Passion, Death
and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. As a school community, we prepare for our
journey into the three holiest days of the year, the Triduum, through prayer and
tradition.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, the students and faculty will gather in the
church for our annual Holy Thursday Prayer Service. After listening to Scripture
readings and reflecting on the example of Jesus, each of the children will participate in
the “hand-washing” ceremony that has become a long-standing tradition in our school.

Following the prayer service, the students will gather in the Parish Activities Center
at 10:45 a.m. for the 7th grade portrayal of the Passion Play. Through music and
dramatic presentation, middle school students will prayerfully re-enact Christ’s passion
and death. As the students depart the space in silence following the presentation, the
tone will be set for their continued reflection and prayer over the course of the coming
days.

All parents are cordially invited to join us in prayer and to witness these beautiful school traditions.

Running with the Saints 5K – Our Thanks

On Saturday, March 24, we hosted our largest ever 5K event with a total of 500 runners participating!  It was wonderful to see so many school families, past and present, as well as individuals from the surrounding community so generously supporting the cause and rallying to honor Michael Munsell and his family.

We were delighted to welcome Vice Mayor Sheryl Bass, U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Comstock & Council Member Marc Aveni, who joined us to show their support for Michael and our school community.

Such a large-scale event would not have been possible without a strong team of volunteers.  We wish to thank our Race Co-Chairs, Mrs. Joan Coleman and Mrs. Sue Haggerty, and the following parents who served on the committee: Mrs. Kate Cooney, Mrs. Jeanine Fehrman, Mrs. Tasha Nelson, Mr. Joe Ortiz, Mrs. Chrissie Vazquez, Mrs. Caeli Volk, Mrs. Cathy Munsell, and Mrs. Rebecca Webb.  Through their efforts, they ensured a well-organized and safe event for the many who participated.  Thank you, as well, to the many volunteers who donated items and to those who helped throughout the race weekend.

We also want to extend a word of appreciation to Mr. Raf Perez who managed the sound and served as our DJ and to Mrs. Amy Godeaux who sang the National Anthem during our opening ceremony. We thank Mrs. Myra Hayde of our Maintenance Team for leading the pack on her scooter and, of course, Fr. Noah for his support and participation. From start to finish, it was a great celebration of the goodness and strength of our community and an occasion that the Munsells will long remember.

Advanced Band – Superior Ratings at Festival!

Congratulations to the members of the All Saints Advanced Band for their stellar performance at the Arlington Diocese Band Festival on Saturday.  The band was awarded two Superior ratings from the judges and was assessed as an outstanding band in the diocese.  These ratings mark the 40th time that our band has been awarded the highest rating at the festival.  Both the beginner and the advanced bands are now getting ready for another exciting performance at a competition to be held at Busch Gardens in May.

Congratulations, All Saints Band, and thank you, Mr. Ward, for inspiring our students to excellence!

NJHS Easter Food Collection

In conjunction with the Lenten Rice Bowl initiative, All Saints Catholic School families
are invited to participate in a food drive to assist the Bethany Food Pantry in providing
an Easter meal for less fortunate families in our community.

Grade levels are invited to donate items as listed below on Thursday morning. The
students of the National Junior Honor Society will then package the meals so that they
may be distributed by the food pantry staff on Good Friday.

  • Grade 8 – 1 Can of Vegetables (Carrots, Corn, Mixed)
  • Grade 7 – 1 Can of Fruit
  • Grade 6 – 1 Box of Side Dish Potatoes
  • Grade 5 – 1 Canned Ham
  • Grade 4 – 1 Can of Pie Filling
  • Grade 3 – 1 Box of Pie Crust Mix
  • Grade 2 – 1 Can of Fruit
  • Grade 1 – 1 Can of Vegetables (Carrots, Corn, Mixed)
  • Kindergarten – 1 Can of Sweet Potatoes
  • Pre-K – 2 Boxes of Biscuit or Corn Muffin Mix
