All Saints Announces Robotics Partnership with Leidos
We are pleased to announce that All Saints Catholic School and Leidos have formed a partnership in support of a robotics program for our middle school students. With generous funding provided by Leidos through Project Lead the Way, we are now well positioned to enrich our curriculum with a program designed to advance the study of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
As part of our emerging STEM initiative, all 7th and 8th grade students will participate in virtual robotics in the computer lab through a web-based program designed at Carnegie Mellon and purchased with proceeds from the Annual Fund. As students develop skills related to design and programming, those interested also have an opportunity to participate in Robotics Club, a hands-on after school activity.
We are confident that this new STEM program will foster greater interest in these fields of study and introduce our students to potential career paths for the 21stCentury. We are grateful for the generosity of Leidos and wish to thank for the organization and its employees for their commitment to education.

Author to Visit All Saints
K. R. Flanagan, author of the Fæ Prince of Fir Manach series, a young adult, historical fantasy trilogy, will speak to students in grades 5-8 on Monday and be available to sign books. After graduating from Norwich University, a private military college, Flanagan spent four years as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. Her military training and experience allow her to write credible warriors, both male and female. These characters inhabit a world that is a seamless blend of medieval historical fiction and fantasy built from her affection for and extensive knowledge of Irish, English, and Scottish history, myths, and legends.

Big Bash: Hollywood Nights – Nov. 16th
The All Saints Catholic School PTO holds a social event for the community each year. Past gatherings have been held at local venues and have included dinner, silent auctions and live auctions. The past few years have included casino games to enhance the fun. Over the years, the goal has shifted from pure fundraiser to more of a FUNraiser, where money is raised, but the main emphasis is gathering as a community.
This year the event gets a bit of a “reboot” as it is renamed the Big Bash and is held on parish grounds in the newly opened Parish Activities Center. A great party, needs a great theme, so plan now to attend Big Bash: Hollywood Nights on November 16th and celebrate All Saints with us!
Who is Big Bash: Hollywood Nights for? The simple answer is everyone! Our school and parish are a direct reflection of God’s grace. It is our chance, as a Christ-centered community, to come together and celebrate the blessings we all share because of His love. Please join us as we celebrate the adults that make our school a success: faculty, parents, staff, priests, local business owners and managers and community leaders.
Important Allergy Awareness Presentation – October 1st
On October 1st at 7pm in the PAC, the PTO will be sponsoring a General Assembly Meeting on a very important topic that you won’t want to miss. We are so fortunate to have a wonderfully dynamic speaker from our very own school community- our beloved school nurse, Mrs. Jillian Roth, R.N.
In addition to her nursing qualifications and wonderful way with our students, what you may not know is that she is considered an Anaphylaxis Community Expert with a specialty in Epinephrine Resource School Nursing (one of four with this qualification in the state of Virginia). Mrs. Roth will be speaking on food allergies and anaphylaxis- a topic which you may be surprised to hear effects a number of children in our own school and many in the community at large.
This is a must see presentation- even if your child does not have allergies, if your child has a friend who does- or any child with allergies spends any time at your house- these strategies can be life saving. If you volunteer in the classroom or work with children, you can play a role in keeping children safe with this information.
In fact, we think that this presentation is so important; you can earn 10 Points for Parents for attending the General Assembly meeting on October 1st.
