The Sentinel – February 26, 2014High School Placement Test Results

February 26, 2014

Message from the Principal

Without question, one of the greatest measures of the success of our school is the accomplishments of our alumni and even our soon to be graduates.  Recently we received the results of the High School Placement Test and I could not be prouder of our students for their performance on this assessment.

The HSPT is a standardized test used by the high schools in our diocese to determine appropriate placement for students applying to their programs.  Similar to the Terra Nova, the test is nationally-normed, providing us an opportunity to compare the performance of our students with a group comprised of students from across the United States.  As a class, our 8th graders scored well above the national average of 50 percentile.  In fact, our students met or exceeded the diocesan average in all three test areas.  This is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, the hard work of our students, and the steadfast support and involvement of our parents over the course of many years.

Congratulations to the students of the 2013-2014 graduating class on this outstanding accomplishment!

Message from the Principal

Beginning this week we will periodically share the progress of our second Annual Fund via a link found at the bottom of the newsletter.  I wish to thank those parents, community members as well as faculty and staff who have already responded so generously.  We know from past experience that the gifts of prayer, support and financial offerings truly make a difference every day for our students.  Thanks to your support of last year’s Annual Fund, we have been able to strengthen our tuition assistance program, update technology in the classrooms and launch a robotics program in the middle school.  As the design of computerized robots is now part of our middle school curriculum, our students will enter high school with important STEM-related skills.

As we look to the future, we want to continue to invest in our science and math programs.  With the success of our 2nd Annual Fund, we plan to install WiFi access throughout the school, an initiative that will be a game changer that opens the door to new technologies in the classrooms.  Imagine the possibilities that exist for integrating mobile devices in all of the instructional rooms, not only the computer lab and library/media center.  Additionally, we wish to continue to allocate funding for the purchase of math and science equipment and maintain our support of the tuition assistance program.

Making a donation today you will not only be helping to advance our program, but also potentially providing the gift of a Catholic education for a child who otherwise might not have the opportunity.  In advance, thank you for your prayerful and generous support of our Annual Fund.

How Can You Participate?

·         Complete a Participation Form2013/14 Annual Fund Brochure

·         Donate Online – Please note that if you donate online, you will also have an opportunity to add a gift of prayer and/or involvement after submitting a financial gift. http://www.allsaintsvaschool.org/alumnidevelopment/annual-fund/

Help All Saints continue Making a Difference, Every Day. Your gift – no matter the size – will help provide for our current students and secure the future of our school. For more information, please contact Janis DeVore at jdevore@allsaintsva.org or (703) 366-1645.

Message from the Principal

This week I want to thank Mr. Redman, our P.E. teacher, and the many volunteers who assisted with the renovation of the gym locker rooms last Saturday.  What began as a morning project stretched through the afternoon hours as a group of very dedicated parents and students worked together to transform the space.  I especially wish to thank Mr. Joe Ortiz, a school parent, as well as The Home Depot for the donation of paint and supplies that they provided in support of the project.  The new space, painted in our school colors of blue and white, will be enjoyed by both P.E. students and our CYO teams during home games and practices.

Race for Education ~ Mailing Labels Due Friday!

Preparations are now underway for the 9th Annual Race for Education which will be held on Thursday, May 8th.   When reviewing the information packet, you will note that our goal for this year’s Race for Education is $50,000.  As is our tradition, we will continue to donate 15% of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that has received more than $100,000 from our community since the 1990’s.   The remaining funds from the 9th Annual Race for Education will be allocated to the PTO, ultimately benefitting the school through a general fund contribution that enables us to continue to purchase and maintain technology and other educational materials. Students are asked to submit completed mailing labels by Friday, February 14th.  For additional information about this process and the incentives offered to students, please see the information packet.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the event coordinator, Mrs. Marjorie Collins, at 703-365-9686.

Locker Room Redo

A group of enthusiastic  students and their parents joined Mr. Redman and family on Saturday morning to take on an HGTV inspired facelift of the All Saints boys and girls locker rooms.  Walls were scrubbed, prepped and painted, lockers were removed, primed and transformed with “All Saints” blue paint. Later this week, members of our parish maintenance team will be hanging large white boards (donated by the All Saints Religious Education Program), the perfect touch for mapping out the winning play.

It’s a project that Mr. Redman was excited to make a reality with the help of student and parent volunteers working together. A few more finishing touches may be in the works so stay tuned!

The Sentinel ~ Re-registration & Tuition Rates for 2014-2015

February 4, 2013

Message from the Principal

Today each family will receive re-registration forms for the 2014-2015 academic year.   Parents are asked to complete all of the forms and return them to the office no later than Friday, February 21st.

Registration of students new to All Saints, including siblings who will be eligible by age for Pre-Kindergarten, will begin on February 10th.  Separate forms related to this initial registration process will automatically be sent home to parents who have already expressed interest in enrolling another child in our program.

Over the course of the last six years, we have been successful in slowing the rate of tuition increase for our families, resulting in some of the most affordable rates in the diocese.  In fact, for families enrolling two children, we are currently the third most affordable of all the schools!

As we look to the upcoming year, we want to continue to provide the same commitment to excellence, the same level of service, and the same value that you have come to associate with the All Saints’ experience.  Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, we want to continue to bolster salaries for our faculty and staff who are so dedicated to our mission.

In order to sustain these commitments and to continue to grow, we will increase tuition by 5% for the 2014-2015 academic year.    Pre-Kindergarten tuition will increase from $2400 to $2550.

The following is a list of the new tuition rates along with a comparison to the diocesan average.

All Saints (2014-2015)

Diocesan Average (2013-2014)

1 Child

$5,236

$5,593

2 Children

$8,430

$9,734

3 Children

$11,415

$13,199

4 Children

$14,403

$15,093

Additionally, we are revising the fee schedule for the Extended Day Program for the upcoming year.  As these rates have remained steady for many years, we are incorporating a few adjustments in the fee structure so as to better fund the program while at the same time maintaining highly competitive pricing.  A copy of the new rates can be found at the corresponding link below.

The remaining funds from the 9th Annual Race for Education will be allocated to the PTO, ultimately benefitting the school through a general fund contribution that enables us to continue to purchase and maintain technology and other educational materials. Lost and Found – Last Call!

There is an overflow of clothes with no name on the tags that have been left at school.   If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, hat and/or lunch box, please come and look through the lost and found.  We will keep items in the office through February 7th, before donating them to the homeless.
