The Sentinel ~ December 16

Principal’s Message

With the passing of each week of December, the excitement in the building has grown as the young – and the young at heart – look forward to the joyous celebration of Christmas.  In many of the classrooms, the children have been discussing the ways that they have been preparing their hearts during this Advent Season.  In the hallways there are even displays of “gifts” that the students have chosen to give to Jesus.  The following are a few highlights I noted as I walked through the building the past few days.  Enjoy these heartfelt and tender sentiments from the children. My gifts to Jesus are…. Praying before I go to sleep each night Listen to my mom and dad more Read the Bible for ten minutes Being kinder to my siblings Help my mom and dad with chores Sharing toys with my friends at school Having a heart full of love for my family Donate money to the poor Helping my mom set the table Be nice and not be like Grinches And in the words of a 3rd Grade student, we can all find inspiration for the season. My gifts to Jesus…a rosary…my love…my heart. On behalf of the faculty & staff of All Saints Catholic School, I wish all of you a blessed Christmas Season!  May the holiday be filled with great joy as you gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of our Savior! Christmas Pageant Reminders We look forward to seeing many of you at the Christmas Pageant beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the church on Monday. With a portrayal of the Nativity Story through text and music, the presentation provides a beautiful moment of reflection for our community. As the Pageant will again be taking place in the church, it is important that we maintain a spirit of reverence.  Also, once the Pageant begins, parents are asked to remain seated and to be mindful of those around them when taking photos.  Students in Grades K, 1, 4, and 5 are asked to dress in their school uniforms.  Some students in Grade 6 will be in costume. Students are asked to report directly to their classrooms by 6:30 p.m.  All 6th grade students, however, are asked to report to their classrooms no later than 6:25 p.m.  The students will return to their homerooms following the performance where parents will meet them shortly thereafter. Prayer for the Third Week of Advent Lord God, may we, your people, who look forward to the birthday of Christ, experience the joy of salvation and celebrate that feast with love and thanksgiving.  We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

The Sentinel ~ December 9, 2015

Principal’s Message

On Friday evening school and parish families once again gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas at a prayer service that began in the church and was followed by a reception in the Parish Activities Center.  Through music, readings and prayer, the children had an opportunity to learn more about the life and legacy of St. Nicholas, culminating in their presentation of new shoes at the foot of the altar.  In total, the children donated 63 pairs of shoes and $63.00 to benefit the House of Mercy.  Thank you Mrs. Sarah Roccograndi and Mrs. Barbra Almond for organizing the event for our community.  I also wish to thank the middle school students who served as ushers and readers, the members of the Schola who led the music, and volunteer parents who assisted with many of the details surrounding the reception.  It was a beautiful occasion, both festive and prayerful, amidst a very busy season.

The next morning several dozen students and parents gathered in Old Town to represent our school in the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade.  I want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Cooney who designed and constructed our new float.  With a globe suspended between two larger than life hands and the accompanying words “For God so Loved the World”, the float conveyed the true meaning of the Season and was a beautiful representation of our Catholic school.  All along the parade route our students and parents distributed snowflake bracelets and information about All Saints.  Thank you to the members of the Enrollment Management Team for designing and preparing these festive giveaways.  I also want to thank those families who volunteered their time and shared their talents in helping to prepare the float for the parade.  It was yet another example of the vibrancy and strength of our community.

A Prayer for the Second Week of Advent

God of power and mercy,

Open our hearts in welcome.

Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy,

So that we may share His wisdom

And become one with Him

When He comes in glory,

For He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever.

Amen.

All Saints Supports The St. Lucy Project

Thanksgiving Luncheon - Support The St. Lucy Project

Thanksgiving Luncheon Collection

Each year we gather as a school community for a cherished tradition, the Thanksgiving Luncheon. This year we included a charitable outreach to benefit The St. Lucy Project sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.

The St. Lucy Project, located in the heart of Manassas, is a large warehouse where staff and volunteers process and distribute donations to numerous food pantries in our region.

As part of the Thanksgiving Luncheon, families in our school offered a monetary donation in support of this ministry when placing their lunch orders. Additionally, on the day of the Thanksgiving Luncheon, the Peace & Justice Players organized an “empty plate” display and collection station (see photo at left) where visitors, parents and students contributed anonymous cash donations.

School Raises Over $1,800 in Support of The St. Lucy Project

Through the generosity of many, the community of All Saints Catholic School raised $1,822.07 to benefit the St. Lucy Project as part of Catholic Schools Care About Catholic Charities Week. After we gathered for Mass on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, we were delighted to personally present a check in this amount to Mr. Art Bennett, Director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Arlington.

We are so pleased to support The St. Lucy Project and wish continued blessings to Catholic Charities as they minister to those in need within our community.
