Our Eagle Gets a Name!

Beginning last spring, there was a call to name the All Saints Eagle mascot.  After many votes, the tallies have been counted and our Eagle has a name!

Without further ado, we introduce the All Saints Eagle, Cuthbert! Our eagle’s namesake is Saint Cuthbert who was known for his successful effort to protect birds in his native Northumbria, now Scotland. His feast day is September 4th, so we will make sure to plan special activities around that day for our own Cuthbert.

St. Cuthbert also is often depicted with the symbol of an Eagle in artwork.  During this time of Covid-19, it is interesting that one of St. Cuthbert’s patronages is against epidemics.

Announcing … All Saints Virtual Art Show

We are so excited to announce that Miss Galanides, All Saints Art Teacher, is organizing a Virtual Art Show for All Saints students!

Students may submit their artwork to the All Saints Virtual Art Show through Artsonia and can upload as many pieces of art as they choose. This is an exciting way for students to share the artwork that they have been creating while at home.

To submit artwork, please do the following:

  1. To get started, download the Artsonia 6.0 app in the Apple or Android app store, select the “Students” option, then type the Access Code FDSM-BSKN. You can view a short tutorial video on using the app at artsonia.com/videos/studentapp.
  2. If you don’t have a mobile compatible device, you can simply visit artsonia.com/class/access.asp. To register for the All Saints page, please enter the Access Code FDSM-BSKN.
  3. Once you are on the All Saints class page, you will be able to add your child’s name and parent email to the roster.
  4. Student usernames and artwork will be private until the child’s parent or guardian gives permission for it to be viewed publicly.

We will be sending out a link to the Virtual Art Show on June 2, 2020, so everyone can enjoy the creative works of our student community! See the Virtual Art Show Flyer below for more information. If you have any questions, please email Miss Galanides at lgalanides@allsaintsva.org,

All Saints Selected for U.S. Department of Education Visit

It was a great honor for us to welcome Mrs. Aimee Viana, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Mr. Michael Chamberlain, Special Assistant for Rural Outreach, to All Saints yesterday.  Joined by a number of distinguished guests that included Dr. Joseph Vorbach (Superintendent of Schools), Mrs. Renee White (Assistant Superintendent for Enrollment and Marketing), Mayor Hal Parrish (City of Manassas) and Mrs. Theresa Coates Ellis (Manassas City Council Member), it was a remarkable moment in the life of our school.

In recent days a number of people have inquired as to when I learned of the visit and how All Saints was actually selected.  I received a call from the Department of Education just last week indicating that a member of their leadership would be in the area and would be pleased to visit All Saints.  After learning of All Saints, they decided to reach out to us to inquire whether a visit might be possible so that they might learn first-hand what makes All Saints unique.

In this regard, the visit provided us an opportunity to showcase specific aspects of our school that were of particular interest to the U.S. Department of Education, namely differentiation of instruction, integration of technology, and the benefits of the tax credit program for families in our community.

There were many highlights throughout the event, such as the visits to classrooms and the one-on-one interaction that our students enjoyed with our special guests. Perhaps the most poignant was the listening session during which a small group of students, parents and faculty shared their perspective on the “All Saints experience.” Prompted with a single question as to why they had chosen All Saints and what makes our school so distinct, each individual spoke from the heart, sharing the impact that All Saints has had on their family through the years.  It was a moment of tremendous school pride and recognition of the gift of Catholic education.

I offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to all of our participants.  I wish to specifically thank and congratulate Camden (President of the SCA) and Brenda (Vice President of the SCA) who represented the entire student body and beautifully articulated the difference that All Saints has made in their lives.

Start to finish, the visit was a wonderful experience for our school community – and a great affirmation of all that we have achieved together through the years.  Indeed, with God all things are possible!

Catholic Cup 2020 Spotlights our Faith

Students gathered to test their knowledge of the Catholic faith in All Saints’ 9th Annual Catholic Cup. Winners of their classroom competitions from grades 4-8 advanced to this final round of The Catholic Cup, an academic-style competition.

As the event emcee, Mr. Tessier posed questions related to Catholic theology and teaching while participants provided answer after answer until the group of contestants came down to just two finalists for the championship round of the competition.

Congratulations to all of our participants and to all of our students who cheered on their classmates.

We want to acknowledge the wonderful work of Mrs. Bill and Mr. Tessier who serve as our faculty coordinators, and extend a very special thank you to the members of our 2019 judging panel:

  • Fr. Ed Guilloux
  • Mrs. Bill
  • Mrs. Sweeney
  • Mr. Kontoes

This uplifting event provides a wonderful way for all of our students, those directly participating and those watching from the audience, to learn and grow in their faith.

Donor Pledges $15,000 in Matching Gift Challenge

It is with great excitement that we share this outstanding news! An anonymous donor has pledged to match contributions made to the All Saints Catholic School Annual Fund up to $15,000 now through January 31, 2020.

This special Matching Gift Challenge means that every contribution made to our Annual Fund will now be matched dollar-for-dollar, making your gift go twice as far. The challenge is scheduled to run from now until January 31—or until $15,000 in matching donations have been reached.

Donations of any amount made by the deadline will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to the aggregate amount of $15,000. A $25 gift becomes $50, $50 becomes $100, $100 becomes $200, $500 becomes $1,000, and so on.

As a reminder, proceeds from our 2019-2020 Annual Fund will support the following:

  • Broadcast Studio
Funds will be used to add a broadcast studio in the library to produce a student-run morning newscast and special video projects.
  • ActivPanels
Our original goal was to purchase 2 next-generation ActivPanels to replace older ActivBoards. With this generous Matching Gift, we now have the opportunity to exceed our original goal and purchase ActivPanels for all remaining classrooms waiting to upgrade!!

Double the Impact of your Gift
To participate in the Matching Gift Challenge, please print our Annual Fund brochure and send in your participation form through your child’s teacher or simply make a donation online by clicking the Donate Now link below.

With less than two weeks remaining in 2019, this is a great time to take advantage of potential year-end tax benefits by making your gift by December 31, 2019.
