The All Saints Catholic School PTO holds a social event for the community each year. Past gatherings have been held at local venues and have included dinner, silent auctions and live auctions. The past few years have included casino games to enhance the fun. Over the years, the goal has shifted from pure fundraiser to more of a FUNraiser, where money is raised, but the main emphasis is gathering as a community.

This year the event gets a bit of a “reboot” as it is renamed the Big Bash and is held on parish grounds in the newly opened Parish Activities Center. A great party, needs a great theme, so plan now to attend Big Bash: Hollywood Nights on November 16th and celebrate All Saints with us!

Who is Big Bash: Hollywood Nights for? The simple answer is everyone! Our school and parish are a direct reflection of God’s grace. It is our chance, as a Christ-centered community, to come together and celebrate the blessings we all share because of His love. Please join us as we celebrate the adults that make our school a success: faculty, parents, staff, priests, local business owners and managers and community leaders.

Big Bash Ticket and Sponsorship Information

On October 1st at 7pm in the PAC, the PTO will be sponsoring a General Assembly Meeting on a very important topic that you won’t want to miss.  We are so fortunate to have a wonderfully dynamic speaker from our very own school community- our beloved school nurse, Mrs. Jillian Roth, R.N.

In addition to her nursing qualifications and wonderful way with our students, what you may not know is that she is considered an Anaphylaxis Community Expert with a specialty in Epinephrine Resource School Nursing (one of four with this qualification in the state of Virginia).  Mrs. Roth will be speaking on food allergies and anaphylaxis- a topic which you may be surprised to hear effects a number of children in our own school and many in the community at large.

This is a must see presentation- even if your child does not have allergies, if your child has a friend who does- or any child with allergies spends any time at your house- these strategies can be life saving.  If you volunteer in the classroom or work with children, you can play a role in keeping children safe with this information.

In fact, we think that this presentation is so important; you can earn 10 Points for Parents for attending the General Assembly meeting on October 1st.

Want to earn 1/2 your Points for Parents for the entire year?!?  Attend all three General Assembly Meetings and you can earn 30 Points for Parents.

We’ve got spirit, yes we do…We’ve got spirit, show yours too!

Come on down to Chick-fil-A on Liberia on Friday September 27^to from 6:30am to 9:30pm.  Make a play date or just stop by for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can even use the drive-thru. Good food, great fun, and fellowship!

Remember 20% of the proceeds benefit All Saints Catholic School.

Here are twelve engaging educational websites, courtesy of educator Willona Sloan, to keep students learning through the dog days of summer:

1. Art Games  – Students can design their own abstract paintings online, learn about pioneering artists, and explore painting techniques.
2. Great Websites for Kids – Dozens of recommendations for exemplary websites for students up to age 14, curated by members of the Association of Library Service to Children.
3. NGA Kids – The National Gallery of Art website features the Photo Op program, which allows kids to use a virtual camera to take pictures and experiment with photo-editing tools; they can also create virtual paintings, assemble collages, and explore art history.
4. National Geographic Kids y National Geographic Education– Photographs and videos of animals and natural environments, links to encyclopedia resources, craft ideas, puzzles, and quizzes.
5. Oxford Owl – More than 250 free e-books, and kids can print, illustrate, and construct their own picture books, play games to test their comprehension, and do math activities.
6. Pass the Plate – Nutritious recipes from all over the world.
7. PBS Kids – Videos from Word Girl, Arthur, and The Electric Company, and places to create comic strips, create and mix global beats, test-drive a space flyer, and do an experiment in the Inventor’s Workshop.
8. Science NetLinks  – The American Association for the Advancement of Science has interactive games, podcasts, information on the inner workings of the body, and science news written by young readers.
9. USA.gov Kids – The WebRangers game simulates being a national park ranger, and students can practice cryptology and code breaking, explore the 50 states, discover health careers, learn tips for saving money, and listen to stories from Peace Corps volunteers.
10. Wonderopolis – Each day, this site explains a new “wonder” of daily life, for example, how to create harmony, why zebras have stripes, and where buffalo roam.
11. Word Mover – Available free through iTunes – Kids can create “found poetry” by choosing from word banks and remixing famous works.
12. iWASWondering – Inspired by the middle-school biography series, Women’s Adventures in Science, this site has brief biographical information and interactive games, including a virtual telescope.
