This week, in math we started experimenting with the concept of measurement. The children measured with rulers and snap cube “ten sticks”. Ask them how they liked “measuring the classroom”! Next week, we move on to capacity and weight, with more fun experiments (somehow around the field trip and Field Day!) And we finished our study of the alphabet with letter Jj, and now are reviewing all letters and their sounds. The children write (by themselves) in their journals every Monday – we will be sending these journals home and hope you will continue the practice. The children continue learning about animals from eggs and next week, we add “viviparous”. Ask them what we call animals that hatch from eggs! (oviparous!) We learned about Our Lady’s rosary and prayed a decade for everyone’s intentions – next week the children will make a one-decade rosary, and start learning about the mysteries. We’re looking forward to a great field trip – BRING A DISPOSABLE BROWN BAG LUNCH and wear PE UNIFORMS, as per our notes sent home.
Next week’s schedule
Language Arts – Write and sound all letters. Continue to read and write sight words and word families in journal writing. Learn new sight word “are”, ‘he” and review all others. Spelling has to continue, we lost so much time! Week of May 20 words – bug, mug, tug, jug, rug, plug, are
Mathematics – Finish Weight and Measurement
Science/Social Studies – oviparous and viviparous animals – Field Trip!
Religion – Mysteries of the Rosary
Homework should be an easy review, and your child should be able to independently complete it in 5-10 minutes. This gives your child a chance for valuable practice with what they are learning. If they do not complete important class work, I will send it home to be completed at home. Spelling test are always on Fridays. There is no homework on Friday nights. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’r hesitate to contact me – firstname.lastname@example.org.
