Principal’s Message

Yesterday morning I had the opportunity to visit with families at the New Parent Coffee.  Over the course of ninety minutes those in attendance learned more about the mission of our school, formed new friendships, and asked questions about many aspects of our program.

During a small group activity, I invited parents to respond to the following question, “What do you hope for your child and your family to get out of the experience of All Saints this year?”  When it came time for one representative from each group to share a few summary thoughts, we quickly arrived at a common theme, i.e. a greater understanding of our Catholic faith, a strong academic foundation, and a safe environment.  After hearing the input from each of the groups, I was struck by the similarities that exist between their answers and our mission statement.

Centered in Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, All Saints Catholic School partners with families to integrate faith formation with academic excellence while focusing on the whole child in a safe, joyful, and welcoming community.

Again, a warm welcome to our many new families!  We are delighted that you chose All Saints and that, in the end, we were just what you were looking for.  Wishing you many blessings during your first year in our community!

School Messenger Emergency Notification ~ Results of Test

Last week’s test of the SchoolMessenger notification system was a success.  In the event that you did not receive messages via phone, text or email, please contact the school office so that we may update your contact information accordingly.

8th Grade Parents Meeting (Thursday, October 15th)

Mrs. Slovenkay and Mrs. Kessinger will host a meeting for all 8th grade parents on Thursday, October 15th beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Father Kelley Hall.  Important information will be shared regarding the high school application process and the special events & activities that are part of the 8th grade experience at All Saints.  At least one parent from each family is asked to attend this important session.

8th Grade Confirmation – Upcoming Meetings

Parents of students preparing for Confirmation are asked to attend one of the following upcoming sessions with their son/daughter.

Sunday, September 20, 2015               11:00am – 12:15pm

Sunday, September 20, 2015               3:45pm – 5:00pm

Tuesday, September 22, 2015             5:30pm – 6:15pm

Wednesday, September 23, 2015        6:30pm – 7:15pm

At the meeting, parents and students will receive important Confirmation information and requirement guidelines, as well as procedures that are new for the Confirmation Class of 2016. You are encouraged to register for the Sacrament at the conclusion of the meeting. Below is a short list of what you will need in order to complete registration for Confirmation.

  • Baptismal certificate
  • Current mailing address of the Church of Baptism
  • Student’s weight and height information
  • Registration fee of $100, in the form of check or cash

Emergency Information – PowerSchool Updates – Past Due 

Parents are asked to submit and/or update their information in PowerSchool if they have not already done so.  The information you provide as part of this process is critically important in that it provides us with the necessary information to contact you in the event of an emergency. 

When updating your contact information, remember to also indicate your preference regarding whether you wish for your family information to be included in the School Directory and for your child to participate in any media efforts, i.e. photographs, video, etc.  Should you have any questions or difficulty with the database, please contact Mrs. Carroll at carroll@allsaintsva.org.

Parent ~ Student Handbooks – Past Due

The 2015-2016 Parent-Student Handbook can be accessed electronically via our website: www.allsaintsvaschool.org.  Please take some time to review the policies and procedures of our school and discuss them with your children.  Those families who have not yet signed and returned the acknowledgment form are asked to do so as soon as possible.  Those families without access to the website are invited to contact the office to request a hard copy of the handbook.

Criminal Background Checks for Volunteers & VIRTUS Requirements

As part of the diocesan initiative to maintain a safe environment for all of our children, all volunteers with “substantial contact” with children are required to complete a background check prior to working in the school and to complete VIRTUS training within 45 days of commencing service.  To register for an upcoming training, please visit www.virtus.org.

In accordance with diocesan policy, full compliance for an adult parent volunteer is not required for open events.  (An open event is one that is open to the public, infrequent and publicized, such as Field Day, concerts and special events/assemblies.)  However, full compliance is required for adult parent volunteers who wish to participate in closed events.  (A closed event is one that is not entirely open to the general public such as classroom activities, parties, field trips, etc.)  For this reason, all parents who wish to attend field trips or volunteer in support of classroom activities are required to complete the background check process and attend VIRTUS training.

As we begin a new year, in accordance with diocesan policy, only those parents who have completed the criminal background check are eligible to volunteer in the school.  Those who have not yet completed the background check process may request a packet of forms from the front office.  

The diocese also requires volunteers who have completed the full VIRTUS training to attend an annual update entitled Keeping the Promise Alive.  This 30 minute video training is a prerequisite for volunteering in the school.  The following is a list of upcoming sessions:

Military Information Night ~ 7th and 8th grade students and parents, along with current O’Connell students, are invited to see Representatives from U.S. military academies and the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Bishop O’Connell on Tuesday, Sep. 15 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium for a Service Academy/ROTC Night. Each representative will give a short presentation in the auditorium, followed by breakout sessions for questions and answers. Youth Football Day ~ We will be hosting Youth Football Day for any students K-8th grade on Saturday, September 19 at Bishop O’Connell.
