Principal’s Message

This year the Office of Catholic Schools revised the policy by which parents may request that their child not be included in any marketing materials created by the school, such as our website, photographs or recordings.  While Appendix N, Waiver Information/Right to Object continues to be the form used for this purpose, it now includes the following statement: If the form is not returned, we will assume that you prohibit such use.

As the policy now requires that we receive a signed form in order for students to be included in publications, today we are sending home hard copies with each child.  Parents who wish for their son/daughter to be included need only complete the top of the form and sign/date the bottom.  Those who wish not to grant permission can do the same and select from a list of promotional items.

In support of this new process, parents are asked to return all forms by Thursday, October 30th

Veterans Day Celebration

Join us as our school community honors the commitment of the men and women who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces. We cordially invite all active duty, reserve, former and retired military personnel to attend our school Mass on Tuesday, November 11th at 8:30 a.m. Following the Mass, there will be a brief ceremony in the Parish Activity Center and a reception for our honored guests in Meeting Room 1.

Open House for 2015-2016 School Year

All Saints Catholic School will host an Open House for prospective parents on Thursday, November 20th beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Activities Center.  All parishioners and members of the community interested in learning more about our school are cordially invited to attend.  Following a presentation and introduction at 9:00 a.m., tours of the facility will be provided. Penny Bazaar Cupcake Drop-Off

On Thursday October 30th, the Safety Patrols will be assisting with the cupcake drop-off during the morning carpool.  Additional safety patrols will be available to take the cupcakes directly from your car. This will minimize additional foot traffic during drop-off.  Thank you for your cupcake donations to Penny Bazaar!

Casino & Auction Sneak Peak….

The November 15 Casino & Auction will begin at 6:30pm.  Your ticket price of $35 includes a gourmet dinner provided by Pampa’s Fox.  Hot & Cold Hors d’Oeuvres include Panko Crispy Shrimp, Empanadas, Asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto, Salmon fillet with Crostini’s, Quiche squares, and more.  The Main Entrées will be Chicken & Veggies Argentinian Wok as well as Vegetarian Lasagna. Desserts will include Passion Fruit Cake, Lemon Mouse Dessert (gluten free) and a gluten free Chocolate Cake.  Cash bar will include beer, wine and specialty drinks (including Sangria). For the live auction, Pampa’s Fox has donated a traditional Asado dinner for eight, including wine.  Don’t miss your chance to enjoy this fabulous meal!

Bounce Mania “Boo Bounce” Spirit Event on October 31st

No tricks just treats! Treat your bundles of energy with a safe place to run and have fun. Parents can relax and chat with each other. Bounce Mania in Gainesville is hosting a special event. “Boo Bounce” will take place on October 31, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $1.00 off admission and 10% will go to the best school around. We have you covered for Halloween. Please bring the attached flyer, or the one sent home for the special discounted price.

Volunteer Opportunities Update

Grocery Programs

Need to buy ingredients for your fall pies, cakes, and cookies?  How about all those delicious soups and stews now that the weather is turning chilly?  Have you bought your Halloween goodies for the trick-or-treaters?  Or do you just need to make a regular grocery store run?  If any of these are the case, don’t forget to register your Giant, Harris Teeter, and Target membership cards.  These programs are easy, wonderful ways to further support All Saints!  Please see the link to the registration form at the end of this issue of The Sentinel or on the school’s website.

Uniform Exchange

Happy Fall!  Just a quick reminder that uniforms switch over to Winter Uniforms on November 3rd.  Please check your child’s closet to make sure you have all that you need for this change.

Boys – grey pants, belt, long sleeve white collar shirt, sweater vest

K-5 ties for days the children attend Mass.

6-8 ties are worn every day.

Girls – K-5 – jumper, long sleeve peter pan, cardigan

6-8 – skirt, long sleeve white collar shirt, sweater vest

PE –      grey shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants

The uniform closet is always in need of any donations you may have.  You can also turn in items for credit to be used now or for a later date.

Inventory:

Low on sweater vests – both K-5 (all navy) and 6-8 (navy with white piping)

No S, L cardigans

Low on size S, L, and XL sweatshirts and sweatpants

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Parish Staff & Visitor Parking

Parents are reminded not to park in the front lot directly across from the spaces reserved for the clergy.  It is important that we keep these spots open for both parish staff and visitors as they come and go throughout the day. Parents who are volunteering or visiting the school are asked to park in the lot directly in front of the church.

Parent – Teacher Conferences – New Middle School Process

Rather than being assigned a conference time with the homeroom teacher, parents may stop by the middle school wing at their convenience to request a meeting with any of the teachers.  Five to ten minute mini-conferences will be held from 8:00 a.m. – Noon and 1:00 p.m. -5:00 pm. on Monday, November 10th and from 1:00 -5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11th.

Classroom Activity Fee Reminder

Thank you to those families who have already submitted the Classroom Activity Fee.

If you have not already done so, please return your activity fee to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Thursday, October 30th.

Veterans Day Mass & Celebration

Join us as our school community honors the commitment of the men and women who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces. We cordially invite all active duty, reserve, former and retired military personnel to attend our school Mass on Tuesday, November 11th at 8:30 a.m. After Mass, there will be a Veterans assembly in the PAC, followed by a reception for our honored guests in Meeting Room 1.

Students received a packet of information a few weeks ago through their classroom teachers about our Veterans Wall of Honor, an annual tradition through which we show our gratitude for those within our school community who have served our nation through military service. For your convenience, a link to the packet is provided at the bottom of this newsletter.

Criminal Background Checks for Volunteers & VIRTUS Requirements

We have scheduled the following opportunities for completing the half-hour VIRTUS update:
