Message from the Principal

On Saturday morning, approximately two hundred people of all ages gathered in the courtyard for the annual Running with the Saints 5K.  It was wonderful to see students, teachers, parents, parishioners, local members of the community and our beloved pastor, Fr. Bob, participating in the event.  The race was particularly special this year as it was the first time that the start and finish line were located on the parish property.  With plenty of space, beautiful facilities, ample parking and a sense of “home”, it was a great experience for the runners as well as those who gathered to support them at the finish line.  I want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Joan Coleman, Mrs. Penny Starrs and Mrs. Wendy Comeau for coordinating the race and the numerous volunteers who provided such great support.  Their attention to the many important details behind the scenes ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for all of the participants. Next Wednesday All Saints is pleased to welcome Mr. Tom Kierein, a meteorologist from NBC4, who will speak to students in grades 4-6 about the weather.  Thank you, Mrs. Honkus, for arranging this visit that correlates with the curriculum in these grade levels. 

3rd Annual Catholic Cup Challenge

On Monday morning student representatives from grades four through eight participated in the 3rd Annual Catholic Cup, an academic competition that showcases the students’ knowledge of their faith.  Similar to a spelling bee in format, participants took turns answering a series of increasingly challenging questions. 

Congratulations to Kimberly Ferguson who won first place and to Eirian Crocker who was the runner-up.  The following students represented their grade levels after winning first place in the classroom competitions.

Diocese of Arlington ~ High School Fair

All Saints will host a Diocesan High School Fair on Tuesday, April 1st from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Parish Activities Center.  Representatives from Bishop Ireton, Bishop O’Connell, Paul VI and John Paul the Great will be present to provide information about their programs.  Parents of students in grades five through eight are encouraged to attend as they consider the next step in their child’s education.

Spirit Event ~ Captain Pell’s Crab House ~ Friday, March 28th

Are you tired of grilled cheese, spaghetti with no meat, and cheese pizza?  Well, come over to Captain Pell’s Crabhouse and enjoy some great seafood!  Mrs.  Harrill, Mrs. Cummings, Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Montaño will be waitressing from 5 – 7 and Mrs. Izquierdo will be waitressing from 5 – 6.  In addition the teachers serving as waitresses, Fr. Bob will be there to support the school.  You can choose to eat in or carryout at this great kid-friendly establishment.  Simply mention that you attend All Saints Catholic School and 15%of your purchase will be donated to our school!  What a delicious way to give back during the Lenten season.  Let’s come together and give back to our great school.  See you all there!

All Saints Mom’s Playgroup

Grocery Programs Update

We are happy to report that All Saints has received $448.54 in rewards from the Harris Teeter Together in Education program!  Thank you to all who have designated our school as the recipient for the Together in Education, Giant A+ Bonus Bucks, and Target’s Take Charge of Education rewards programs.  These programs are a wonderful way to help All Saints while simply doing your regular shopping.

BoxTops for Education Update

Students, Parents, and Teachers – Thank you again for the incredible BoxTops submissions!  All Saints’ next check from BoxTops for Education will be $1892.28.  And…we’re not finished collecting.  We’ve collected 1,170 since the March 1st submission.  Way to go everyone!  Let’s keep going…BJ’s has a $3.00 off coupon for Scott’s Toilet paper and there are 15 BoxTops on the package.  Spring is the best time to collect BoxTops.

CYO Girls Volleyball Teams Forming

All Saints School is currently forming three girl’s volleyball teams: 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade. The cost is $20 per player. The teams are forming now and we need at least 8 girl’s registered to have a team and before we can schedule practices. Coaches are needed as well. Please come to an informational meeting for all parents, players and potential coaches on Thursday, March 27th in the gym from 4-4:30 and open practice for basic skills for all players from 4:30-5:30 pm. Matches will be played on Saturdays or Sundays and will begin the weekend of April 5th/6th. The season will consist of 7 matches and last until May 31st/June 1st. No matches will be played during Holy Week, on Confirmation dates or conflicts. This is a new sport for CYO and this is an experimental season to see if it will be implemented full time next year. If your daughter would like to play volleyball for All Saints, please fill out the attached registration form and return it with a check to the parish office as soon as possible and no later than April 1st. We would like to get the teams set before this Friday so that we can schedule practices for next week. It’s no joke!!  All Saints will host a Diocesan High School Open House and we have been asked to provide refreshments.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 2 – Annual All Saints Catholic School Sponsored Lenten Soup Supper

Each year All Saints School hosts one night of the Annual All Saints Lenten Soup Suppers. Wednesday, April 2nd the school takes its turn hosting.  WE NEED SOUP!!!  Please consider making a pot of soup – simple recipes will be provided upon request.  We will need folks to help serve – a great activity for families to engage in service together.  Sign up to volunteer to make soup or serve on SignUp Genius:

High School News

8th Annual Band Camp @ Paul VI

June 23-27 8:30-noon.  Open to Diocesan and public school rising 5th-9th graders, optional jazz unit also offered.  Students prepare light pop, sacred, and classical selections, performance last day in historic Donald Heet Auditorium for family and friends.  $120 per student/early bird price $100.  For questions contact:  Band Camp Form and Flyer are linked below.


Pre-Kindergarten Openings for 2014-15

We currently have a few spots remaining in our Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2014-15 school year. Designed for four year old children, our program offers half day classes, Monday – Thursday.  This is a great opportunity for families in our community who may be hoping to send their child to All Saints but have heard that openings are limited due to high demand.  Please invite families who may be interested in the Pre-Kindergarten program to contact Mrs. Joyce D’Eugenio at (703) 393-1490 or for more information.  Current families who refer families into our program may earn up to $400.00 in tuition credit through our New Student Referral Program!

Terra Nova Testing Countdown ~ 2 Weeks!

As the week of standardized testing approaches, parents are asked to avoid scheduling appointments from Monday, April 7th – Tuesday, April 15th so that each student may participate in the testing as scheduled.

Pilgrim Virgin Statue Program ~ Sign up Now to Host Statue in your Home

In keeping with the Holy Father’s Consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary last Sunday, All Saints School families are invited to renew their devotion to Jesus through Mary in a special way.  There are two Statues of Our Lady of Fatima available to the homes of our school families for weeklong visits.  Sign up online at

Those interested in participating are encouraged to sign up for the first available week in order to avoid gaps in the schedule.  However, if there is an upcoming event or celebration that is particularly important to your family, i.e. wedding or anniversary, you are most welcome to host the statue during that specific week. 

While the statue of Mother Mary is in your home, families are encouraged to pray together either part or the entire 5-decade rosary for the intentions of our school as well as your private intentions.  Also, the school has purchased a DVD of “The Day the Sun Danced”, which presents the message of Fatima which was entrusted to three peasant children in Portugal in 1917.
