Message from the Principal

This week I want to thank Mr. Redman, our P.E. teacher, and the many volunteers who assisted with the renovation of the gym locker rooms last Saturday.  What began as a morning project stretched through the afternoon hours as a group of very dedicated parents and students worked together to transform the space.  I especially wish to thank Mr. Joe Ortiz, a school parent, as well as The Home Depot for the donation of paint and supplies that they provided in support of the project.  The new space, painted in our school colors of blue and white, will be enjoyed by both P.E. students and our CYO teams during home games and practices.

Race for Education ~ Mailing Labels Due Friday!

Preparations are now underway for the 9th Annual Race for Education which will be held on Thursday, May 8th.   When reviewing the information packet, you will note that our goal for this year’s Race for Education is $50,000.  As is our tradition, we will continue to donate 15% of the proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that has received more than $100,000 from our community since the 1990’s.   The remaining funds from the 9th Annual Race for Education will be allocated to the PTO, ultimately benefitting the school through a general fund contribution that enables us to continue to purchase and maintain technology and other educational materials. Students are asked to submit completed mailing labels by Friday, February 14th.  For additional information about this process and the incentives offered to students, please see the information packet.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the event coordinator, Mrs. Marjorie Collins, at 703-365-9686.

Re-Registration Forms ~ Due Friday, February 21st

Parents are reminded that all re-registration forms are due in the office on Friday, February 21st.  Since registration of new students began this week, it is important that parents return the forms by the deadline in order to insure that a place is reserved for each child who will be returning for the upcoming year.

Note: Application packets for siblings new to All Saints are being sent home today to all families who responded to the enrollment survey in November.  In the event that you do not receive an application or wish to request one for another child, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Science Fair ~ Wednesday, February 19th

Next Wednesday, February 19th the school Science Fair will take place from 8 am to 2 pm in the PAC. In case of inclement weather, the snow date for the fair is Thursday, February 20th. The Science Fair will be open to the community for viewing from 5:30-6:30 pm and this would be a good opportunity for Middle School students to present their projects to their parents. The Formal Awards Presentation will take place from 6:30-7:15 and middle school students who attend are encouraged to wear their school uniform.

Many thanks to the numerous volunteers who are helping with the Science Fair. A few food donations are still needed. Please sign up with the Volunteer Genius at this link.  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050E4EAEAF22A46-allsaints2 Each food donation is worth 5 points for parents.

For more information about the Science Fair, please contact Holly Crocker at hollyscrocker@comcast.net.

PTO to Sponsor Cyber Safety Presentation

On Monday, February 24th beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Mr. Andrew McGahan, Clinical Director of the Jewish Social Services Agency, will speak on the topic of Cyber Safety Awareness

As this presentation will address such an important matter, at least one parent from each family is asked to attend.  The presentation will take place in the Parish Activity Center from 7:00-9:00 p.m. with time for questions at the end of the evening.  Invite friends, neighbors and colleagues to what promises to be an insightful and empowering presentation for parents!

Virtue of the Month ~ Honesty

1.      Admit when you do something wrong.  Don’t put the blame on others.

2.      Do all of your own work and put your best effort into it.  Don’t look at other student’s papers.

3.      Be true to your word and your beliefs.

4.      If you forget your homework, tell the truth.  Accept the consequences.

5.      If you find money try to find out who it belongs to.

6.      Always ask before borrowing something.

7.      Give back what you borrow in good condition.

8.      Be honest when you correct your own paper or someone else’s.  Circle all the mistakes.

9.      If you make a promise, keep it.

Prayer of the Month

Lord Jesus,

You know me well and you see what is going on in my heart.

I am sure you understand me and want to help me.

Please give me the courage to resist temptations of all kinds,

and practice the virtue of Honesty in all I think, say, and do.

Let your Spirit rekindle in my heart the desire to act right,

and give me wonderful ideas to help others act right too.

Amen

Also, we’re coming up to our next submission date for Boxtops! March 1, 2014 I will be sending in another batch of boxtops. Would you believe we’re at 8,036 boxtops since the last submission! I’m not sure if classrooms have been camped out at supermarkets to collect this many…but they are sure coming in. Keep it up! I’ll have an update next week on the class room rankings.
