On Saturday evening our school will host the Big Bash, a new approach to a beloved tradition! As we gather for this event for the first time in the newly renovated Parish Activity Center, I am reminded of the original “Harvest Auction” which took place in the cafeteria many years ago. Little would we have guessed that one day in the future, we would be able to bring the auction back home to such a beautiful space. How blessed we are!
While the venue has changed over the course of many years, the cause remains the same. The funds raised from the Big Bash will enable us to continue to provide our students with a premier educational experience. With the proceeds from the event we will be able to support the fine work of the Parent-Teacher Organization, thereby enabling us to maintain affordable tuition rates while providing important financial support to programs that directly impact students and faculty.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the celebration as we gather in support of our school and enjoy the theme of “Hollywood Nights”. With delicious food, casino games, a strolling magician and live auction, as well as music and dancing, it will be a full evening of activities and entertainment. And in keeping with the theme, you’ll even have a chance to be photographed as you arrive at the event. I look forward to seeing you on the “Red Carpet”!
Two weeks ago I shared with you the exciting news that on November 22nd we will host a special ceremony to celebrate a new corporate sponsorship and to introduce a middle school robotics program! We look forward to welcoming Sr. Bernadette McManigal, Superintendent of Schools, and our pastor, Fr. Bob, as we officially launch this new program. Enrollment Survey – Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten & Siblings for 2014-2015
With the demand for Catholic education in our region and the reputation for excellence that our school enjoys, it is important that the office solicit information from current families regarding their plans for enrolling siblings in our Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or other grade levels for the upcoming year. As in the past, we will continue to give first consideration to current school families before reviewing applications from new families.
While completion of the attached survey does not guarantee enrollment, it is helpful for us to know how many current families plan to submit an application for a sibling. Note: For planning purposes, even if you have a child currently enrolled in the Pre-Kindergarten program, we ask that you use this survey to confirm your interest for next year’s Kindergarten. Please submit all survey responses to the school office by Friday, November 22nd.
Annual Fund – Launched for 2nd Year!
Recently each family received an introductory letter and accompanying flyer outlining the goals of the Annual Fund. Again this year, we invite you to make contributions of prayer, service and/or financial donations, all of which are important gifts that will help us sustain our mission now and into the future! All funds received will be used in support of tuition assistance, the purchase of math & science equipment, and the installation of WiFi access throughout the school.
Last week a copy of the 2013-2014 Family Directory was distributed to each family. Again this year the publication was printed by J.M Gaske through the financial support of parents and local businesses that generously sponsored advertisements.

Diocesan Teacher Information Session
Have you ever considered a career in Catholic education? Would you like to learn more about our diocese and what it means to be a Catholic school teacher? Please join us as we host a Diocesan Teacher Information Session on Friday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Music Room. Sr. Patricia Helene, former Assistant Superintendent and the current Director of the Catholic School Leadership Program at Marymount University will present an overview and be available to answer questions that you may have. Those interested in learning more about the ministry of Catholic education are cordially invited to attend.
Big Bash: Hollywood Nights – It’s Here!
We hope you’re planning to celebrate All Saints School on November 16. Join these stars scheduled to attend: Fr. Bob & all of our parish priests, Mr. Dwane, Mrs. Cummings, Mrs. Slovenkay, Mrs. Harrill, Mrs. Izquierdo and more! Tickets are $35pp – buy them online or at the door. What does your event ticket buy you? A lot!: hors d’oeuvres, dinner, soft drinks, coffee/tea, featured performer (magician Max Major), casino games and dancing. We’ll have a cash bar, multiple casino raffle prizes and the always popular Heads & Tails raffle. And of course, our fabulous silent and live auctions. It’s going to be an exciting evening!

- Come hungry! The food will be plentiful and tasty, no need to go out to dinner before the Big Bash.
- Smile for the camera. You’ll walk the red carpet and have a chance to pose like the star that you are. Attire for the evening is dressy-casual (slacks, skirt, collared shirt)
- No paper credentials needed. The PTO went green for the Big Bash, so you won’t bring a ticket to enter. Don’t worry, we’ve got you all on file! If you haven’t heard from us yet about your ticket order, contact us at email@example.com immediately.

New this year: auction pre-bidding and selected class items will be for sale! Auction items will be available for viewing and pre-bidding the Friday before the Big Bash and you can buy raffle tickets, too. Class auction items are highly valuable because they capture a moment in time – they are personalized with your child and his or her classmates in some way. Some are unique and will only be available for auction, but we have a select group of class gift items available for you to buy.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed
The book fair is just around the corner and we need your help! Virtus trained volunteers are needed in the library to help our students select and purchase books. Each shift worked will be 5 points for parents or 2.5 points for a ½ hour shift. Our busiest shopping day is Monday November 25, during our Thanksgiving luncheon; please consider volunteering before or after having lunch with your child. SCA 2013 Christmas Ornament Sale
The SCA is beginning to take orders for the 2013 Christmas Ornaments. Save the Date! ~ Evening With St. Nicholas
The 5th Annual “Evening with St. Nicholas“, will be held on Friday December 6th beginning at 7pm in the church. This year, we are celebrating on his feast day, and the reception will follow in the PAC, where families will enjoy cookies, cocoa and pictures with St. Nicholas and Mother Seton.
Please join us for what has become a beautiful tradition here at All Saints. The evening will begin with an Advent Prayer Service and traditional Advent carols in the church. The “Procession of the Shoes” will again be lead by St. Nicholas himself! St. Nicholas and Mother Seton will be available for photos (bring your own camera) afterwards in the PAC. This very popular community-building event is designed to help us prepare for the Advent season. Once again, we will be collecting donations of new shoes, with the proceeds benefitting House of Mercy. Donation guidelines are: NEW plain colors of tennis shoes- white, blue, black, tan, or brown. No character tennis shoes, please.

BoxTops for Education and Campbell’s Soup Labels Update
The Box Tops have been sent in. The total amount collected for the first submission was 13,628 Box Tops plus 180 ebox tops (those will be submitted once the Box Tops web site is back up) for a grand total of 13,808.
But, it does not end there! For the week of November 4, we collected an additional 734 Box Tops and 368 Labels for Education! Keep sending them in! Let’s break a record this year:

Soup Labels to date: 4,059 = $ 405.90

Annual Parent Survey on Bullying
Last week all parents were invited to participate in an anonymous, online survey for the purpose of assessing the level of bullying at All Saints Catholic School. We estimate that it should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete the survey. Parents are asked to complete the survey by Friday, November 15th. In advance, we thank you for your participation in our efforts to both assess our current climate and to establish benchmarks for future reference.

Open House for 2014-2015 School Year
All Saints Catholic School will host an Open House for prospective parents on Thursday, November 21st beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Activities Center. All parishioners and members of the community interested in learning more about our school are cordially invited to attend. Following a presentation and introduction at 9:00 a.m., tours of the facility will be provided. For more information, please contact Mrs. Joyce D’Eugenio, administrative assistant, at (703) 393-1490.
The schedule for the Thanksgiving Luncheon is as follows:
11:00-11:40 Grades 6-8
11:40-12:20 Grades 4-5
12:20-1:00 Grades 2-3
1:00-1:40 Grades K-1
The arrival process will be the same as prior years with parents reporting directly to their son/daughter’s classroom. There, they will wait with their children, and when called by grade level, report to the gym via the Father Kelley Wing.
So that the kitchen staff may begin planning for the event, please be sure to return your form no later than Thursday, November 21st. We do hope that you will join us for this Thanksgiving tradition!

A Note from the School Nurse – Allergy Parent Support Group
Attention parents & Guardians: If your child or someone in your family has food allergies, please join the Allergy Parent Support Group. We will be meeting in Meeting Room #1 on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 10:30am. This group is a place for families to talk about how food allergies have changed their lives, how they cope and a chance to lend support to others. Pilgrim Virgin Statue Program ~ Sign up Now to Host Statue in your Home
Families who wish to host one of the Pilgrim Virgin Statues of Our Lady of Fatima can sign up online at the following link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F084CAEAB22A02-pilgrim.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to sign up for the first available week in order to avoid gaps in the schedule. However, if there is an upcoming event or celebration that is particularly important to your family, i.e. wedding or anniversary, you are most welcome to host the statue during that specific week.
While the statue of Mother Mary is in your home, families are encouraged to pray together either part or the entire 5-decade rosary for the intentions of our school as well as your private intentions. Also, the school has purchased a DVD of “The Day the Sun Danced”, which presents the message of Fatima which was entrusted to three peasant children in Portugal in 1917.
