Message from the Principal

Next week All Saints will join with schools across our country in celebrating Catholic Schools Week, an annual celebration of our heritage and distinct mission.  The theme selected for this year’s event is Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.  At All Saints we know this to be true.  With a commitment to academic excellence and more importantly, faith formation & character development, the faculty, staff, clergy and parents are united in their effort to provide our children with a life-changing educational experience.  This week we pause to give thanks for this gift of Catholic education and to rejoice in the blessings that All Saints offers to the children in our community.

The following is a list of special activities planned for the weeklong celebration.

Sunday, January 27th

All students are asked to wear their school uniform to Sunday Mass.

Monday, January 28th

Priest Appreciation Day ~ Students will offer special prayers and spiritual bouquets for our parish priests.

Tuesday, January 29th

Staff Appreciation Day ~ Coordinated by Teachers and Students

Wednesday, January 30th

Vocation Day Celebration & Prayer Service ~ Priests and religious from our region will visit with the students, sharing how they discovered their vocation and the various roles and ministries in which they now serve.

Thursday, January 31st

Student Appreciation Day ~ Optional Dress Down Day ($1.00 in support of our diocesan seminary); Free Ice Cream at Lunch & No Homework; Presentation of “A Midsummer Nights’ Dream” by the Drama Club.

Friday, February 1st

School Mass

Students will make small gifts for their teachers

Casino Night & Auction (Portuguese Community Center/6:30 p.m.)

Casino Night & Auction

On Saturday, February 2nd the PTO will host the annual Casino & Auction Night at the Portuguese Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.  In addition to being a beloved fund-raising event with a long history at All Saints, the annual auction provides a wonderful opportunity for parents, faculty, staff and community members to celebrate the success of our school.  I hope that many of you will be able to join us for this special evening which has become a highly-anticipated event for many.

March for Life

On Friday, January 25th the students of All Saints will join their prayers with the thousands who will gather in Washington, D.C. at the annual March for Life.  As a school community we will pray for an end to abortion and for an increase in respect for the sanctity of life at all stages in our society.   While children who wish to attend the March for Life with their parents will be marked as absent, please know that this absence will not affect a child who otherwise would earn “Perfect Attendance” at the close of the year.  If your child will be attending the March, please notify his or her teacher no later than tomorrow.

Harris Teeter – $2,000 Bonus Check!

Thanks to the high level of participation among school families in Harris Teeter’s Together in Education program, All Saints received a check in the amount of $2,000 last week!  Thank you to those families who supported our effort by “linking” to the program.

The program runs from August 1st through May 31st each year.  However, participants are required to re-link each year.  Harris Teeter has made re-linking your VIC card easy in the following ways:

2012-2013 Yearbook Order Forms

Yearbook order forms were distributed to students today.  Look for them in backpacks this evening and be sure to place your order soon for the 2012-2013 book of memories.

Open House for 2013-2014 School Year – February 7th

All Saints Catholic School will host an Open House for prospective parents on Thursday, February 7thbeginning at 9:00 a.m.  All parishioners and members of the community interested in learning more about the parish school are cordially invited to attend.  Following a presentation and introduction at 9:00 a.m., tours of the facility will be provided. Make Your Commitment to the Annual Fund Today

Our Making a Difference, Every Day Annual Fund campaign is now underway.  Not only are we receiving support from our faculty/staff and parent community, we are also hearing from parents of All Saints alumni who received our annual fund mailing and are supporting the school in appreciation of the strong faith and academic foundation that their children received at All Saints. We have also received three commitments of matching funds from donors who work for companies that offer a Matching Gift Program.*

As we greet the New Year, we invite you to use this time to recommit to our school through your prayerful discernment and participation in The Legacy Fund through gifts of prayer, involvement and financial contribution.

  • Remember, funds raised through the annual fund will be used to provide your child with new opportunities related to technology and math/science, and support efforts to provide tuition aid for families in need.
  • We are looking for 100% participation (through gifts of prayer, involvement and financial commitment)from our teachers/staff and parent community. This will allow us to ask for support from the broader community with the knowledge that the initiative is receiving full support from within.

Calendar Correction – January 31st?

Thursday, January 31st was inadvertently not included on the official school calendar.  It will in fact be a regular day of school at All Saints.

Tuition Assistance Applications for 2013-2014

Applications for tuition assistance for the 2013-2014 academic year are now available at the front office.  Again this year the Diocese of Arlington has contracted with FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Company.  FACTS has established an on-line application process that can be initiated through the company website (www.factstuitionaid.com.)

The due dates for applications and supporting documentation are as follows:

High School                 January 28, 2013

Elementary School      March 18, 2013

NOTE: All families with children enrolled in both high school and elementary school will need to submit an application by the January high school deadline.

Please note that ALL applications and supporting documentation must be received by FACTS by the date listed above, not postmarked.  Applications are not considered complete until FACTS has received the supporting documentation.  Additionally, only those families who are verified by FACTS as having submitted all of the required supporting documentation will be eligible for diocesan tuition assistance.

Those families interested in applying for tuition assistance for the Pre-Kindergarten program are invited to complete a separate application available in our front office.  As the diocesan tuition assistance program pertains only to those students enrolled in grades K-12, the Pre-Kindergarten assistance program is distinct and managed by All Saints rather than FACTS Tuition.

Criminal Background Checks for Volunteers & VIRTUS Requirements

The diocese requires volunteers who have completed the full VIRTUS training to attend an annual update entitled Keeping the Promise Alive.  This 30 minutes video training is a prerequisite for volunteering in the school.  The following is a list of upcoming sessions.  (Please note:  For planning purposes, volunteers are asked to confirm their intent to attend a session on the voicemail of Mrs. Janet Smith.  703.393.2158)
