Message from the Principal

On Saturday morning a number of students, including the All Saints cheerleaders, as well as parents gathered in Old Town to represent our school in the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade.  I want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Stevens for once again coordinating the design and construction of our school float and for providing the storage space during the weeks leading up to the event.  With the theme of A Storybook Christmas, the float depicted a Nativity Scene, the true meaning of the season!  Dressed as Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds and wise-men, our students provided a visual representation of that first Christmas.   I want to also thank all of the volunteer parents who assisted with the construction of the float and helped to coordinate the logistics, ensuring that our children had both a safe and enjoyable time.

On Friday the teachers will distribute 2nd Quarter Interim Reports to students who are not demonstrating satisfactory or better progress in their academics and/or social/work characteristics.  However, please note that the Middle School Team will no longer issue these mid-term reports as detailed information remains available via Edline.  All middle school parents are encouraged to visit this site regularly to review their son/daughter’s progress throughout the quarter.

Annual Fund Update

The Legacy Fund is now underway and members of our community are continuing to give generously of their time, talent and treasure in support of our mission.  By this time, all faculty, staff and parents should have received a brochure and letter outlining the details of this new development effort.   We now invite your prayerful discernment and participation through gifts of prayer, gifts of involvement and gifts of financial contribution.

Legacy Fund FAQ

Did You Know … there is not an immediate deadline for participation in the annual fund? We are hoping to receive all participation forms and online contributions by February 28, 2013. However, as long as you submit your contribution by May 31, it will be reflected in our 2012-2013 annual report.

Did You Know … If your employer participates in the United Way, you can direct a set amount of your United Way gift to All Saints Catholic School? It’s as easy as designating All Saints as a recipient on your United Way contribution form. (Click on this link for a visual of the United Way Contribution Form: )
Here’s how to complete the United Way National Capital Area form:

  • Under the section entitled, “Choose How You Would Like Your Investment Directed,” check “Option D: Designate a Specific Nonprofit Organization.”
  • Select “Other nonprofit organization or other United Way must be a 501(c)3” and provide the following information:

Nonprofit Name:                 All Saints Catholic School

We are truly excited about this new beginning for our school and look forward to our continued partnership with you.  Remember, your gift – no matter the size – will help provide for our current students and secure the future of our school! For more information about The Legacy Fund or to request additional brochures, please contact Mrs. Janis DeVore, Director of Marketing & Development, at

Please note that a minimum gift of $100 per nonprofit is required when making a contribution to a non-member nonprofit. If you have any questions, please contact Janis DeVore at Thank you for your support of our mission!

A Prayer for the Second Week of Advent

God of power and mercy,

Open our hearts in welcome.

Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy,

So that we may share His wisdom

And become one with Him

When He comes in glory,

For He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever.

Virtue of the Month ~ Generosity

During the month of December, students will be encouraged to implement the following strategies:

  1. Give from your own money to help others in need.
  2. Give freely of your time without expecting anything in return.
  3. Ask for forgiveness when you have hurt someone and be willing to forgive them when they hurt you.
  4. Offer to help someone in class each day.
  5. Share your supplies with someone who forgot theirs.
  6. Do something helpful for someone at home without being asked.
  7. See if others want “second helpings” before taking some for yourself.
  8. Let someone else in your family choose the movie or television show you will watch together.
  9. Offer to help an older neighbor with a job like raking leaves or shoveling snow.
  10. Let another person ahead of you get a drink first at the water fountain.

Prayer of the Month ~ Prayer of St. Nicholas

Loving God, we thank you for
      the example of St. Nicholas,
      who fed the hungry,
      brought hope to the imprisoned,
      gave comfort to the lost,
and taught the truth to all.
May we strive to imitate him
by putting you first in all we do.
Give us the courage, love and strength
of St. Nicholas, so that, like him,
we may serve you through loving
      our brothers and sisters.  Amen

Enrollment Survey for Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten Programs 2013-2014

With the demand for Catholic education in our region and the reputation for excellence that our school enjoys, it is important that the office solicit information from current families regarding plans for enrollment in our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs for the upcoming year.  As in the past, we will continue to give first consideration to current school families before reviewing new applications.

While completion of the attached survey does not guarantee enrollment, it is helpful for us to know how many current families plan to apply for these two programs.  Even if you have a child currently enrolled in the Pre-Kindergarten program, it is important that you notify us of your interest for next year’s Kindergarten.  Survey responses were due to the school office by Friday, November 30th.

A big THANK YOU goes out to all parents, students, faculty and staff that supported our recent Scholastic Book Fair!  What a great way to have celebrated reading and raise funds for the school library. The theme All Star Readers kept the excitement building as we transformed the library into The Reading Zone with all sorts of sports memorabilia.    Students  enjoyed figuring out the throwback photographs displayed of the faculty and staff from their glory days of their youthJ  Also the All Saints Cheerleaders every morning announced the Book Fair guessing game winner through a clap, stomping, all out chant over the Intercom.    This fun-filled event could not be accomplished without our devoted All Saints families that graciously volunteered to make the Book Fair a huge success.  It truly is a team effort. Your generosity enabled the profits from the Book Fair sales to exceed over $12,000 earning the library $2,500 to spend on books and special school programs.

Celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas and help House of Mercy at the same time!!

Join the All Saints PTO for the 4th Annual “Evening with St. Nicholas”, and help us help the House of Mercy in their time of need!  Join us Friday, December 14th beginning at 7pm in the church.  Remember to RSVP today!!

Terry and John Bisaga , from House of Mercy, will join us that evening. The shoes we collect that night will go to children whose parents go to the House of Mercy to select two gifts per child for Christmas. Two gifts! The shoes you donate will be a child’s Christmas gift. Last year we collected 50 pairs of shoes- let’s double that this year and help twice as many children! Please bring a donation (or two!) of new shoes in honor of St. Nicholas and his feast day. Monetary donations will also be accepted. House of Mercy shoe donation guidelines are: NEW plain colors of tennis shoes- white, blue, black, tan, or brown. No character tennis shoes, please.

We are happy to announce the details of the evening!  Father Bob will preside over our Advent prayer service, and  Mrs. Reynolds and members of Schola will sing traditional Advent carols.  The “Procession of the Shoes” will again be lead by St. Nicholas himself! St. Nicholas and Mother Seton will be available for photos (bring your own camera) afterwards in the gym. For planning purposes, please visit the “Evening with St. Nicholas” link at  to RSVP today.

All volunteer opportunities & food donations count toward the Point for Parents program: Thank you to those who have already volunteered to help- but we still need many hands (and donations) to make the evening a success!

VOLUNTEERS: Please go to to volunteer your time. Questions about volunteering- contact event co-chair Gina Michak at *All volunteers at the event must have completed the background paperwork and be Virtus trained.

Contact event co-chair Kate Bachman at with questions about food donations or to volunteer for an at home volunteer opportunity: * Covering battery-operated candles with pink/purple paper for the advent wreath centerpieces (all supplies provided!)

FOOD DONATIONS: We are asking for Christmas cookies/decorated sugar cookies, (homemade or store bought), cocoa mix (packets OR canisters) and mini-marshmallows. Cookies only, please. Class Project Volunteers Needed for Casino/Auction Night
We need parent volunteer to offer their “helping hands”, time and talents to create and help with class projects to be auctioned off at Casino/ Auction Night.  In the past, each classroom has been responsible for a project within that class.  This year we will NOT be asking for parent volunteers from each class to come up with an idea and coordinate their efforts with teacher, parents and students to create an item.  Instead, we are forming a small committee of parent volunteers, led by Mrs. Debi Woolfrey, to coordinate with each class and many clubs to participate in creating items to represent each class or grade.  We now would like to open this up for any parent volunteer who wants to help with any of the class projects. Some of the fun ideas are an outdoor Jenga board, mosaic bird bath, collages of student art and handmade rosaries.

The committee has already selected very achievable, cost effective projects for each class.  Below are our volunteer and donation needs:

1) “Helping Hands” – parents who can lend their time and/or talents to complete a project with students.  You don’t have to be an artist – just a willingness to work with students on the assigned project

2) Artistic/ Creative Volunteers to work on design and layout of some of the projects.

3) Volunteers who are interested in painting furniture (small pieces)- paint provided.

4) Donations: look for an upcoming list of supplies that families can donate to this effort OR families can donate gift cards to Michael’s so we can purchase supplies. We do have an immediate need for 6 2X4X8 boards to be donated.

If you can help in any of these ways or would like more information, please contact Debi Woolfrey as soon as possible at  Earn points for parents for donations and time!
