“The Gift of Faith brings us Joy and Hope.”

Message from the Principal

Within the last couple of weeks, I have twice been contacted by former parents of All Saints who wished to proudly share the success of their children who are now in high school and beyond.  Ironically, both families have students attending Osbourn Park High School and both shared the same story: Every graduate of All Saints attending the school recently received an Academic Award or were inducted into the National Honor Society.  At around the same time, I also received copies of the Honor Roll lists from Bishop O’Connell and Paul VI High Schools and I am pleased to announce that 15 of our former students achieved this academic recognition.

If the greatest measure of a school’s success is the accomplishments and goodness of its graduates, then we have much to celebrate at All Saints!  Through the dedication of our talented faculty & staff and with the steadfast support of our parent and parish community, students are provided a firm foundation of faith and excellence in learning.

This is, indeed, a special blessing for the now more than 570 students enrolled in our school and it is with a strong commitment to preserving this gift that last week All Saints launched The Legacy Fund, our first ever annual fund campaign.

By this time, all faculty, staff and parents should have received a brochure and letter outlining the details of this new development effort.   We now invite your prayerful discernment and participation through gifts of prayer, gifts of involvement and gifts of financial contribution.

In the days ahead you will receive a special message from Mrs. Holly  Stefonsky, former PTO President and long-time parent at All Saints, who has accepted the invitation to serve as the Parent Chairperson of our first annual fund effort.  I am grateful for her leadership as well as the commitment of the additional sixteen volunteer parents who have stepped forward to assist with this initiative.

We are truly excited about this new beginning for our school and look forward to our continued partnership with you.  Remember, your gift – no matter the size – will help provide for our current students and secure the future of our school! For more information about The Legacy Fund or to request additional brochures, please contact Mrs. Janis DeVore, Director of Marketing & Development, at

Year of Faith Scripture Presentation – Friday Evening

Please join All Saints Church for a special evening as we welcome Dr. Steven Smith, Ph.D., author of the book “The Word of the Lord: 7 Essential Principles for Catholic Scripture Study” to be held at All Saints Church on Friday, November 30th, at 7:00 p.m.  Dr. Smith, a noted Catholic speaker and professor of Scripture at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary is known for his passion, clarity and faithfulness in speaking about the Bible.  The Word of the Lord is filled with insights from the ages on how to ready, study and pray Scripture – so that we can come closer to Christ.  Dr. Smith will sign/dedicate copies of his new book, and have a limited number of his new “compassion series” (5-CD set) to The Word of the Lord.

Celebration of the Advent Season

Next week we will begin our annual journey of Advent, a time of preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas.  Amidst all of the joy and activity surrounding the preparations for the season, it is easy for us to lose sight of the fact that Advent is a beautiful season unto itself.

At  All Saints we have established several traditions that help to create a tone of anticipation and waiting, in essence a time during which we invite the children to prepare their hearts for the coming of  Christ.

Advent Wreath Prayer Services ~ Every Monday morning during Advent the students will gather for prayer around three separate wreaths in each of the wings of the school as we begin our day together.  There, the students and faculty will participate in age-appropriate prayer services through which the children will learn more about the tradition of the Advent wreath and meaning of the season.

Sacrament of Reconciliation ~ Each of the students in grades three through eight will have an opportunity to encounter Christ in this beautiful Sacrament of healing and forgiveness.  Our parish priests have scheduled sessions during the school day for each of these grade levels over the course of the next several weeks.

7th Annual Catholic Schools Care About Catholic Charities Week ~ Again this year, our students will provide financial support to Catholic Charities as part of an annual effort across our diocese.  On Thursday, December 6th, the Peace & Justice Players will sponsor a dress down day.  Students are invited to contribute $1.00 and dress in “holiday colors” and jeans.  All monies collected will be donated to Catholic Charities and benefit initiatives such as Christ House (a Catholic Charities Homeless Shelter) Christ House on Wheels and other programs.  To make this experience even more meaningful for our students, the children are encouraged to contribute the $1.00 from their own funds, perhaps by giving up the purchase of ice cream or pretzels at lunch.

Toys for Tots ~ Donations of unwrapped new toys are now being collected through Wednesday, December 12th.  Collection points are located by the front office and breezeway where students enter the building.

Blessing of the Advent Wreath

Lord our God,

we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ:

He is Emmanuel, the hope of the peoples,

He is the wisdom that teaches and guides us,

He is the Savior of every nation.

Lord God,

let your blessing come upon us

as we light the candles of this wreath.

May the wreath and its light

be a sign of Christ’s promise to bring us salvation.

May he come quickly and not delay.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

A Prayer for Advent ~ Week I

All-powerful God,

increase our strength of will for doing good

that Christ may find an eager welcome at His coming

and call us to His side in the kingdom of heaven,

where He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever.  Amen.

Copies of the new Family Directory were distributed to the oldest child in each family today.  In the event that you do not receive one, please contact Mrs. Kruppa at the front desk.  Again, this year the document was printed by J.M. Gaske through the financial support of local businesses.  When seeking local services, please take a moment to consider those companies that have shown support for our school by purchasing an advertisement in this annual publication.  We also wish to thank Mrs. Bruno, Mrs. Kruppa, and Mrs. D’Eugenio for collaborating on the design and layout, resulting in a first-class directory for our families.

Message & Prayer Request from the Pennefather Family

Dear All Saints Community,

Thank you for your many prayers throughout these past months.  We wanted to update you on Charbel’s health.  He has continued to develop normally hitting all of his developmental goals. Thanks be to God!! He turned four months today, November 25.  We continue to ask St. Charbel’s intercession for our Charbel’s complete healing this week as we prepare for an MRA scheduled for Dec. 3.  This MRA will be compared to one done in September to check on the development of the blood vessels in his brain.  We would so appreciate your continue prayers and continue to keep the All Saints Community in ours.

Prayer for the intercession of Saint Charbel Makhlouf

Lord, infinitely Holy and Glorified in Your Saints,
You have inspired Charbel, the saint monk, to lead the perfect life of a hermit.
We thank You for granting him the blessing and the strength to detach himself from the world
so that the heroism of the monastic virtues of poverty, obedience, and chastity,
could triumph in his hermitage. We beseech You to grant us the grace of loving and serving You,
following his example.
Almighty God, Who has manifested the power of St. Charbel's intercession
through his countless miracles and favours, grant us...
Complete healing of Charbel Pennefather
through his intercession.
Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...

Thank you,

The Pennefather Family

Enrollment Survey for Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten Programs 2013-2014

With the demand for Catholic education in our region and the reputation for excellence that our school enjoys, it is important that the office solicit information from current families regarding plans for enrollment in our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs for the upcoming year.  As in the past, we will continue to give first consideration to current school families before reviewing new applications.

While completion of the attached survey does not guarantee enrollment, it is helpful for us to know how many current families plan to apply for these two programs.  Even if you have a child currently enrolled in the Pre-Kindergarten program, it is important that you notify us of your interest for next year’s Kindergarten.  Please submit all survey responses to the school office by Friday, November 30th.  Note: In addition to being linked to the newsletter, a copy of the Enrollment Survey is being sent home with the oldest child in each family today.
