Seek Christ in one another; welcome Him into your heart.

Principal’s Message

This week I wish to provide you with an update regarding a change in our Middle School program for the second semester.  It is with regret that I inform you that Ms. Coto, 8th grade homeroom and middle school language arts teacher, has tendered her resignation effective Friday, January 20th.  After a period of discernment, she has decided to leave All Saints in order to pursue a teaching opportunity in higher education.

I recognize that this is difficult news as Ms. Coto has been a long-standing member of our faculty who has not only been highly effective in the classroom, but has also established wonderful rapport with our students and parents.  Indeed, she will be greatly missed as she transitions to her new position.

In her place I am pleased to announce that I have hired Mrs. Melissa DeBruyne, a highly experienced Catholic educator. Many of you may know Mrs. DeBruyne already as three of her children are enrolled at All Saints.  She and her family relocated to Northern Virginia from Washington State where she was most recently employed as librarian and enrichment coordinator at St. Monica Parish.  Prior to that time, she taught middle school language arts for a number of years in New Hampshire.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Michael’s College in Vermont and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Southern Maine.  In addition to her classroom experience, she served as a consultant in both New Hampshire and Washington in the areas of differentiation of instruction and alternative assessment.  Needless to say, Mrs. DeBruyne brings an ideal skill-set that is very well matched with the needs of our school during this mid-year transition.  I am delighted that she will be joining our team following the Christmas holiday and am confident that she will carry forward the good work begun by Ms. Coto.

In order that Mrs. DeBruyne may become acclimated to the mission and culture of All Saints, she will begin employment on Thursday, January 12th, spending a week shadowing Ms. Coto, learning the routines, and becoming familiar with our school procedures.  Additionally, she will host an open house on Thursday, January 19th from 3:30 -5:00 p.m., providing parents with an opportunity to meet her prior to her first day of teaching on Monday, January 23rd.

I recognize that the departure of a teacher during the middle of the year presents a difficult challenge for the students, most especially those in the 8th grade program.  Please know of my commitment to ensuring a transition that is minimally disruptive and particularly supportive of our soon to be high school students.

Congratulations to the members of the Beginner and Advanced Bands on a wonderful performance last evening.  As always, the students delivered a performance that was truly impressive.  It never ceases to amaze me as to how much a group of students can accomplish over the course of a few months.  Without a doubt, the guidance provided by our band director, Mr. Barry Ward, and his assistant, Mr. Mark Moccio, inspired our students to perform at such a high level.  I was particularly proud of our young soloists who courageously showcased their individual skills.  The closing number performed by the “Santa Hat Quartet” was delightful, yet further evidence of the inspiration and encouragement provided by our outstanding band directors!

A Prayer for Advent ~ Week III

Lord God,

may we, your people,

who look forward to the birthday of Christ,

experience the joy of salvation

and celebrate that feast with love and thanksgiving.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever.

All Saints Christmas Pageant 2011

Again this year, students in grades K, 2, 6, & 8 as well as select members of the All Saints Schola will present a Christmas Pageant on Monday, December 19th beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Activity Center.  (Note:  In consideration of the young children who will be participating in the presentation, the Pageant will begin at 7:00 p.m., thirty minutes earlier than originally scheduled.)

Students in K, 2, & Schola should wear “Christmas best” (please keep clothing selections within school dress code guidelines).

Students in 6th grade should wear the costumes & “Christmas best” as discussed in music/drama class – Miss Dalusung has contacted by email or phone all families of 6th graders requiring costumes. If you have not checked in with her, please do so.

8th grade students will be featured on stage throughout the program and should be dressed in all black – long pants or knee length skirt or longer and tights, long sleeved shirt with no logos or patterns.

On December 19th, there will be a “dress rehearsal” performance for the school at 2 pm. Parents are welcome to attend. On the evening of the pageant, all students in the performance should report to the school gym at 6:45 pm. However, the Schola should report directly to the Parish Activity Center at 6:30 p.m. and 6th grade performers should report to the gym at 6:30 p.m.

All questions can be directed to Miss Dalusung via email:
