The Sentinel – Volume 12, Issue 9

Seek Christ in one another; welcome Him into your heart.

Principal’s Message

This week I am pleased to share with you the exciting news that both Mrs. Doherty (1st Grade) and Mrs. Honkus (5th Grade) are expecting with due dates of April 14th and May 16th respectively.  We congratulate them both on this wonderful news and wish them every blessing as they continue to prepare for the birth of their babies.  Both wish to continue teaching, to the extent possible, up to their due dates and to return to All Saints after a period of maternity leave.  In the months ahead I will finalize the plans for the classrooms during the period that they will be away on maternity leave to ensure that the fine work they have begun will continue during their absence.  Again, congratulations Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. Honkus!

During the month of October the Religious Education department has released important information relative to the schedule of sacraments during the spring semester as well as the related steps of formation in the program.  Due to circumstances beyond our control, a conflict exists between one of the weekends designated for the 8th Grade Confirmation Retreat and the Diocesan Band Festival, both of which are scheduled for Saturday, March 31st.  As this is the case, 8th grade parents who have children in the band are encouraged to register for the 8th Grade Confirmation Retreat scheduled for the weekend prior, March 23-24, 2012.  The staff of the Religious Education Department is aware of the conflict and will make every effort to schedule our families for the first weekend retreat.  However, it is vitally important that those families who wish to register for this retreat submit their forms as soon as possible in order that they may receive this special consideration.

Running with the Saints 5K

ATTENTION: 10 days to the first annual Running with the Saints 5K.  We are thrilled that more than 175 people of all ages and abilities have registered.  Although we can no longer guarantee a race T-shirt with each registration, you are still welcome and encouraged to sign up either by paper registration returned through your child’s teacher or online at active.com/running/manassas-va/running-with-the-saints-5k-2011.  Please bear in mind that children participating in grades 5 or below need to have an adult in charge that is also a registered participant.  Like all PTO activities, we rely on parent volunteers to make this event happen.  Sue Ferguson has prepared an outline of help still needed, which can be viewed via the attached link at the bottom of today’s Sentinel.  Paper registration forms are also available for download.  Visit our website at runningwiththesaints.org for complete information and to see our sponsors!  Feel free to thank our sponsors for helping make this event possible.

Seeking Art Supplies – “Bubble Wrap”

Thanks to the financial support of the PTO, our school now has a kiln that is used to fire pottery designed by students in our art program.  As many of the completed work samples are fragile, Mrs. Blair is seeking donations of “bubble wrap” to preserve student work as it is transported from school to home.  If anyone has access to quantities of “bubble wrap”, perhaps through their business, Mrs. Blair would welcome any donations you are able to provide.   If you are interested in more information and may be able to assist, please contact Mrs. Blair at 703-368-4400 or sblair@allsaintsva.org.
