Principal’s Message

Excitement is building in anticipation of our first ever Running with the Saints 5K to be held on Saturday, November 5th.  As of Monday, the PTO has confirmed 140 registrants for the event including our very own Fr. Bob and Fr. Jeb!

The Running with the Saints 5K is open to all who wish to participate; the young and not so young, the experienced and the beginner, those from our community and those from beyond.  The event is currently advertised on Active.com where those interested can complete the registration process. Additionally, information about the event can be found by clicking on the Running with the Saints 5K link on our homepage.  At a cost of only $25 for adults and $15 for students for advanced registration, the PTO has aimed to keep the event affordable for families.

Behind the scenes, the PTO is also hard at work preparing for the upcoming Casino Night and Auction. The following is an overview of the event and an invitation for parents to show their support as volunteers or business sponsors.

SAVE-the-DATE: February 11, 2012 and join your fellow All Saints parents & parishioners for an evening of fun and fellowship. As one of the major fundraisers hosted by the All Saints PTO, the Fourth Annual Casino Night and Auction is instrumental in enriching the educational experience for our students and the event has become a wonderful opportunity for enriching the spirit of community for All Saints families.   Play casino games with your “funny money” and cash in your dollars for raffle tickets to win prizes. The more you play, the more chances you have to win. Silent and Live Auctions include items from vacations to fun family afternoon outings, to activities with teachers, local services, sports memorabilia and so much more.  Mark your calendar for food and fund, a great deal for $25!

How much:             $25 per person, in advance; $30 at-the-door – ticket sales will begin in December

Attention business owners and sales professionals: If you contribute at least five hours of your time to support the planning committee’s activities, you are eligible to place a business card-sized ad in the event program for just $5!  That’s a $20 savings to have your name and business advertised to all of the Casino Night guests, as well as to the All Saints Parish Community, through a listing in the Sunday bulletin following the event.  (Full-, half- and third-page ads are also available, for an additional cost.  Questions about advertising: contact Mrs. Ann Potocnak at potocnak3@comcast.net)

Bullying Survey – Important Reminder

All school parents are invited to participate in an anonymous, online survey for the purpose of assessing the level of bullying at All Saints Catholic School.  We estimate that it should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete the survey.

Parents are asked to complete the survey by Friday, October 21st.    In advance, we thank you for your participation in our efforts to both assess our current climate and to establish benchmarks for future reference.

Parent-Teacher Conferences ~ Appointment Slips

Today each student received a conference appointment slip confirming the date and time for the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, November 10th and Friday, November 11th.   If you did not receive this information, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

A Presentation on Understanding the New Roman Missal

On 11/27/11, the First Sunday of Advent, there will be changes in the words we hear and say at Mass.Come to learn about what is changing in the Mass, why the changes were made, and receive an overview of the changes and practical pointers for adapting to this transition.  Presenters include: the Director of Music, Mr. Bill Atwood, the Assistant Director of Youth, Miss Tiffany Lambert, and the Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Samantha Welsh.

Presentation Dates:               Wednesday, October 26th  7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. in the Gym.  or

Sunday, October 30th   6:45 p.m.—8:00 p.m. in the PAC.

Note: The PTO Executive Board is committed to providing informative sessions for parents at each General Assembly Meeting.  As such, the next PTO meeting has been rescheduled from Tuesday, October 25th to Wednesday, October 26th to coincide with this special presentation on the implementation of the New Roman Missal.  The PTO will host a fifteen minute business meeting beginning at 8:20 p.m. immediately following the special presentation.

Band Shirts ~ Reminder to Submit Orders

Monday, October 31st is the final day orders can be submitted for band shirts.  If you need to order a band shirt, please email the student’s name, class/teacher, and shirt size to Mrs. Pam Hardy atbeabear@verizon.net.  All Advanced Band members are required to have a band shirt.  It is optional for beginning band students.  See Attached flyer for more details.

2nd Grade Sacraments Update

The Jesus Day experience for 2nd grade students will take place on Saturday, March 10th rather than March 17th as published in our school calendar.  The Sacrament of First Reconciliation has been scheduled for Saturday, February 25th and Saturday, March 3rd.

Veterans Day Celebration

Join us as our school community honors the commitment of the men and women who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces. We cordially invite all active duty, reserve, former and retired military personnel to attend our school Mass on Wednesday, November 9th at 8:30 a.m. Following the Mass, there will be a brief ceremony followed by a reception for our honored guests in Father Kelley Hall.  In the weeks ahead the students will receive a packet of information regarding our Veterans Wall Display, an annual tradition by which we show our pride and gratitude for the sacrifices of those in our community who have served our nation through military service.

3rd Annual Greater Manassas Veterans Day Parade

The 3rd Annual Greater Manassas Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m. in Old Town Manassas.  Following the parade will be a ‘Welcome Home’ party at the Harris Pavilion which will focus on our Vietnam War Veterans.  Entertainment scheduled is 50s, 60s and 70s music, dance troupes, military displays of vehicles and equipment, food and beverage vendors.  Web site is www.vetpar.org

SPIRIT EVENTS NEWS:

  • Chuck E. Cheese 10/27/11, 12 noon – 9:00 p.m.

Please join us for a lot of fun at Chuck E. Cheese. As we are finished at 12 noon, we will be having our Spirit Event on Thursday, October 27th from 12-9 p.m. Come along and have a wonderful time with your All Saints Family. Teachers and staff eat free with a school ID. Each student will receive a sticker from the school redeemable for 10 free tokens. Younger siblings can earn free tokens too with online rewards calendars. These and additional everyday coupons are available athttp://www.chuckecheese.com. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to All Saints School.   • Running with the Saints Chick-fil-A (Liberia Avenue) Spirit Event on 11/5/11

Chick-fil-A is one of our sponsors for our Running with the Saints 5K Event. We will be having a Spirit Event in conjunction with the 5K. You can fuel up before the big race, or go for a drink or meal after the race. Stop by any time on Saturday, November 5th between 6:30-8:30 a.m. and/or 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m.

  • ·         Raindate for our Spirit Event at Ticonderoga Farm 11/11/11

Well, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for our Ticonderoga Farm Spirit Event. We have re-scheduled our fun for Friday, November 11th. So, come enjoy some fall excitement. Since there is no school that day, stop by anytime between 10 am-5pm. This is parent-teacher conference day, so you can come before or after your conference. The discounted cost for All Saints is $7.95 per child and each child receives a free small pumpkin. Please print the flyer and bring it with you to receive the special discounted price. The fun includes hayrides, hillside slides, an Indian teepee village, log cabins, hay forts, live bamboo maze, Virginia’s longest swinging bridge, swings, play areas, a small shop of locally produced fall goodies and more. There is even a place to toast marshmallows. Bring along the smores fixings and it is a yummy treat for all. Don’t want to bring the marshamallows? They have them for sale. There will be a half-hour update to Virtus training, “Keeping the Promise Alive”, this THURSDAY, October 27th at 7:00 PM in Meeting Room 2.
