The P.E. uniform remains unchanged for the upcoming year.  However, the sweatpants will now include a drawstring and the fit has been updated and will be more comfortable for students.

A significant change for the 2011-2012 academic year is that students enrolled in kindergarten will now wear the full school uniform. The rationale for this change begins with the recognition that the kindergartners attend a full day program and that we wish for them to feel a great sense of belonging to our school by wearing the same uniform as the rest of the student body.  There is no change to the Pre-Kindergarten program.  Students in this program will continue to wear their own clothes in accordance with the guidelines provided to Pre-K parents.

Another change for the 2011-2012 academic year is that students will no longer transition to a different uniform at the 5th grade level.  Instead, the changes will occur when students begin middle school. This is in keeping with widespread tradition among many schools and provides an opportunity to distinguish middle school students from those in the elementary grades.  While working to create a distinct look for those in grades six through eight, the Uniform Committee was mindful of the need to maintain a look of uniformity across the grades.  It is for this reason that you will note the subtle changes of white piping on the sweater vests as well as the addition of a striped tie.

The following will be our shoe policy beginning in 2011-2012.  (Note: As the current uniform is grandfathered for one year, the oxford shoes & penny loafers for middle school students will not be a required part of the uniform until the fall of 2012.  During the upcoming year, middle school students may continue to wear the black athletic shoe.)

Boys (K-5)              Black Athletic Shoe ~ standard low cut tennis shoes; high tops and basketball shoes are not acceptable

Girls (K-5)              Black Athletic Shoe ~ standard low cut tennis shoes; high tops and basketball shoes are not acceptable

Optional Shoe ~ Black Mary Jane to be purchased from vendor of choice

Boys (6-8)  Required Shoe (2012)  ~ Black, tie oxford (rubber-soled, non-marking)

Grandfathered Shoe (2011) ~ Black Athletic Shoe ~ standard low cut tennis shoes; high tops and basketball shoes are not acceptable

Girls (6-8) Required Shoe (2012) ~ Black leather penny loafer (rubber-soled, non-marking)

Grandfathered Shoe (2011) ~ Black Athletic Shoe ~ standard low cut tennis shoes; high tops and basketball shoes are not acceptable

For students entering fifth grade for the 2011-2012 academic year, there will be a special one year privilege extended to them.  Only this year students may purchase the middle school uniform.
