Message from the Principal

Congratulations to the members of the Beginner and Advanced Bands on a wonderful performance last evening.  The concert took place in the Parish Activities Center, the old church, where there was plenty of seating and the band performed on the raised platform that was formerly the sanctuary.  As always, the students delivered a performance that was very impressive.  It never ceases to amaze me as to how much a group of students can accomplish over the course of a few months.  Without a doubt, the guidance provided by our Band Director, Mr. Barry Ward, and his assistant, Mr. Mark Moccio, inspired our students to perform at such a high level.  Congratulations to our directors and students on an outstanding presentation!

I also wish to recognize the members of the Peace & Justice Players and thank them for their presentation of The Chameleon Effect last Friday afternoon.  Under the direction of Mrs. Rakshys and Mrs. Kardaras, the students performed a twenty minute play with an important message for students: Remain true to your principles and never change in an effort to impress or “fit in” with others.  It was wonderful to witness students from our middle school program delivering this powerful message. Thank you, Peace & Justice Players!

This week I would like to provide you with an update regarding our Uniform Review Initiative.  First, thank you to the many families who participated in the initial survey in November.  The feedback from more than 200 families was very helpful to the Uniform Committee in gaining an understanding of the community’s perspective on our current uniform.  Most importantly, the information we received from parents has helped to determine the scope and extent of potential uniform changes for our school.

The following represents the consensus of the Uniform Committee after reviewing the results of the parent survey.

§  The parent community supports a substantive change in uniform at this time.

§  The parent community is nearly evenly divided on the question of a one vs. two uniform model.

§  Parents are generally satisfied with the level of customer service and quality of goods.

§  Parents are generally dissatisfied with the cost and convenience.

With the knowledge that the community favors a substantive change in the uniform at this time, the Uniform Committee wishes to focus on the question of a one vs. two uniform model.  It is well possible that this question was interpreted in a number of ways, depending upon each respondent’s understanding of the one uniform option.

In an effort to gain a more accurate understanding of the parent community’s perspective on this and to have greater clarity for planning the road ahead, I would like to encourage you to complete a follow up survey.  As the survey only contains one question, it should take only seconds to respond.

Please note: There is an assumption built into the survey, i.e. in the event that the community decides to adopt a uniform to be worn throughout the year (option #2 or option #3), the uniform will be similar in formality to the current winter uniform.  In other words, the less formal appearance of the current summer uniform would not be adopted as a year-round uniform.  The reason for this is that a more formal uniform better represents the tradition and level of excellence for which our school is known.

In advance, thank you for your participation in the second step of our Uniform Review Initiative.  Both the committee and I appreciate your input as it will help to ensure that any changes in the uniform will coincide with the needs and concerns of our school families.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, All Saints Catholic School follows the decision of Prince William County Public School System.  If the county schools decide to close, All Saints is closed for the day and all related activities are cancelled.  Similarly, if the county schools decide to open late or dismiss early, All Saints responds in the same manner.  Note: Should the county system announce a delayed opening on a day for which a noon dismissal is scheduled at All Saints, the early release is cancelled and school ends at 3:00 p.m.

Christmas Pageant

Students in grades K, 4, 6 & 8 will perform a Christmas Pageant on Thursday, December 16thbeginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Activities Center.  (old church)  All school families are cordially invited to attend and enjoy the pageant prepared by Miss Dalusung and Mr. Tessier.

Open House for 2011-2012 School Year

All Saints Catholic School will host an Open House for prospective parents on Thursday, January 20th beginning at 9:00 a.m.  All parishioners and members of the community interested in learning more about the parish school are cordially invited to attend.  Following a presentation and introduction at 9:00 a.m., tours of the facility will be provided. Tuition Assistance Applications

Applications for tuition assistance for the 2011-2012 academic year are now available in both English and Spanish at the front office.  Again this year the Diocese of Arlington has contracted with FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Company.  FACTS has established an on-line application process that can be initiated through the company website (

The due dates for applications and supporting documentation are as follows:

High School                  January 24, 2011

Elementary School      March 14, 2011

NOTE: All families with children enrolled in both high school and elementary school will need to submit an application by the January high school deadline.

Please note that ALL applications and supporting documentation must be received by FACTS by the date listed above, not postmarked.  Applications are not considered complete until FACTS has received the supporting documentation.
