Principal’s Message
On Monday evening the students presented the annual Christmas Pageant, the highlight of which was a beautiful depiction of the Nativity Scene.  As the lights grew dim and the students sang softly, everyone in the church enjoyed a quiet Advent moment that reminded us all of the true meaning of Christmas.  I am so proud of our students and grateful to Miss McPhilamy and Mr. Tessier for all that they did to prepare such a wonderful production.

In many of the classrooms the children have been discussing the ways that they have been preparing their hearts during this Advent Season.  In the hallways there are even bulletin board displays of “gifts” that the students have chosen to give to Jesus.  I hope that you enjoy several of these heartfelt sentiments as shared by students in this week’s video.

Mrs. Belkis Mitter, Director of Extended Day, will be completing her student teaching in our third grade program through Western Governors University during the second semester.  Her student teaching assignment will begin on January 3rd and conclude at the end of March.  Mrs. Montano will serve as her cooperating teacher, providing guidance and supervision as Mrs. Mitter gradually assumes responsibility for instruction and assessment during her twelve week experience.  I am delighted that Mrs. Mitter is able to complete this requirement within our school and am confident that she will benefit greatly from the knowledge and experience that Mrs. Montano has acquired during her many years in education.

On behalf of the faculty & staff of All Saints Catholic School, I wish all of you a blessed Christmas Season!  May the holiday be filled with great joy as you gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of our Savior!

Prayer for the Fourth Week of Advent
Father, all-powerful God, your eternal Word took flesh on our earth when the Virgin Mary placed her life at the service of your plan.  Lift our minds in watchful hope to hear the voice which announces his glory, and open our minds to receive the Spirit who prepares us for his coming.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Principal’s Message

On Monday morning our community celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Following the school Mass at 10:00 a.m., the students placed roses at the feet of the statue of Our Lady in the courtyard and recited prayers in Spanish led by Fr. Juan.  With the joyful singing of the parish Guadalupe Choir and delicious donuts for everyone to enjoy, it was a festive celebration of our faith and cultural heritage.

These sacred moments that occur in the life of our school frequently touch the hearts of the children in ways unseen.  For example, for years we have established the tradition of the students gathering each Monday morning during Advent for prayer and song.  To see the impact of this ritual repeated year after year, one need look no further than a first grade classroom in which the students spontaneously broke into song while completing an activity last week.  Enjoy this week’s video presentation, a brief but endearing moment with some of our youngest learners.

Prayer for the Third Week of Advent
Lord God, may we, your people, who look forward to the birthday of Christ, experience the joy of salvation and celebrate that feast with love and thanksgiving.  We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

Come Take a Walk in Bethlehem!
Shake off the dust of the 21st century and step back in time two thousand years to discover the true meaning of Christmas. Come focus your Christmas preparations on the Nativity of our Savior, by taking this interactive visit to the town and stable with the Holy Family and live animals.  For two nights this Advent, Thursday, December 15th and Friday, December 16th, the halls of Holy Trinity will be transformed into the little town of Bethlehem.  Walk the streets of Bethlehem and discover the simplicity, chaos, and humility of that blessed Holy Night we celebrate each year at Christmas.

The event is free; no tickets or RSVPs needed; it is an “Open House” so come with family or friends anytime between 5 and 8 pm.  The walk will take about 30 – 40 minutes, and as you wait to enter, there will be holiday music to enjoy.   Most of the walk is indoors, but bring a coat because the Holy Family and animals will be outdoors.  Wheelchairs are fine; strollers will be parked in our hall, so plan to carry little ones.

That God would clothe himself in the irresistible, innocent beauty of an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and beckon us to know Him and love Him is an incomprehensible gift of love!  This event is called Bethlehem Walk and we look forward to seeing you December 15th or 16th. Holy Trinity is located at 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, VA.

Important Carpool & Parking Reminders
In keeping with our school policy, parents are reminded to use only right turns when entering the property during arrival and dismissal.  This is important in order to maintain a steady flow of traffic on Stonewall Road, to prevent any back-ups near the intersection at Center Street, and to maintain positive public relations with our neighbors and local businesses.

When picking students up following after school activities, parents are reminded not to park in the fire lane directly in front of the school.  It is important that this area be open to emergency vehicles at all times.  Parents are asked to park in front of the church and to walk over to the courtyard to pick up their children from extracurricular activities.

Thank you for your attention to these procedures that safeguard our school and that foster positive relationships with our local community.

The Sentinel – December 7, 2016

Principal’s Message

On Friday evening school and parish families once again gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas at a prayer service that began in the church and was followed by a reception in the Parish Activities Center.  Through music, readings and prayer, the children had an opportunity to learn more about the life and legacy of St. Nicholas, culminating in their presentation of new shoes at the foot of the altar.  Thank you Mrs. Sarah Roccograndi and Mrs. Barbra Almond for organizing the event for our community.  I also wish to thank the middle school students who served as ushers and readers, the members of the Schola who led the music, and volunteer parents who assisted with many of the details surrounding the reception.  It was a beautiful occasion, both festive and prayerful, that captured the spirit of Advent.

The next morning several dozen students and parents gathered in Old Town to represent our school in the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade.  I want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Cooney who designed and constructed our float which was awarded first place in its division!  With a twelve point star and our school motto proudly displayed, the float conveyed the true meaning of the Season and was a beautiful representation of our Catholic school.  Along the parade route our parents distributed snowflake bracelets and information about All Saints.  Thank you to the members of the Enrollment Management Team for designing and preparing these festive giveaways.  I also want to thank those families who volunteered their time and shared their talents in helping to prepare the float for the parade.  It was yet another shining moment for our school community.
On Monday, we will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe beginning with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the church.  Immediately following the liturgy, the students will gather around the Statue of Mary in the courtyard where they will learn more about the feast day and pray one Decade of the Rosary.  Students are cordially invited to bring single roses to school on Monday to be presented to Our Lady by class representatives. After the ceremony, the students will process to the Parish Activities Center where they will enjoy authentic Mexican treats and the music of the parish Spanish Choir.  We look forward to this joyful celebration of Our Lady and hope that many of you will be able to join us for the occasion.

A Prayer for the Second Week of Advent
God of power and mercy,
Open our hearts in welcome.
Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy,
So that we may share His wisdom
And become one with Him
When He comes in glory,
For He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Installation Mass — Bishop Michael Burbidge

Today our hearts and prayers are united as Bishop Michael F. Burbidge is installed as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington.

I am privileged to be attending the Installation Mass at 2:00 p.m. with two of our eighth grade students, Lily Feltman and Aidan Parker. I am delighted that they will represent our school and that Lily will have the opportunity to be part of a group that will officially congratulate and welcome Bishop Burbidge during the liturgy.

A Live Stream of the Installation Mass will be offered on the Arlington Diocese home page beginning at 2:00 p.m. You can also listen to the Mass Live on the radio at WMET 1160 AM or watch the Mass in its entirety on EWTN at 3:00 p.m.

On the occasion of his Installation, the students have offered many prayers for our new bishop, all of which will be included in a spiritual bouquet to be presented to him at a later date. Please see the link below that includes photos from the spiritual bouquet project and a special message for Bishop Burbidge.

Video: All Saints Welcomes Bishop Burbidge

May God continue to bless Bishop Loverde as he transitions to his retirement and may our new shepherd, Bishop Burbidge, be guided by the Holy Spirit as he begins his leadership of our diocese.

In Christ,
